The Protorelic quest spans the entire game and will result in you meeting up with the superboss of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Once you make it to Gilgamesh Island, you will have to do some battles before you get to fight the man, Gilgamesh, himself. These come in the form of three battles against two summons each, with this page covering the Titan and Bahamut Arisen fight, at the Shrine of the Hazy Moon.
Character Loadouts¶
Thankfully, you don’t need a lot of specific things for this battle, as Bahamut Arisen doesn’t have any weaknesses. Titan does, though, so make sure you have one or two characters with a maxed out Wind Materia, so you can pelt him with Aerogas. Pairing Wind on someone with Magic Focus for some extra power, although you can also pair it with Elemental on someone’s weapon so they deal wind damage with their normal attacks. Outside of that one thing, the standard materia loadout will work here, like having a Barrier Materia linked to Magnify. Being able to cast Manawall will help you survive a lot longer, especially with both summons looking to continually assault you.
Naturally, you want a Healing Materia on everyone, as well as a backup Prayer Materia on the character with the best ATB generation. There are also the Steadfast Block and Precision Defense Focus Materias, as they are great for just about any battle. Since you can actually use items here, having someone with Item Master can prove useful, but don’t forget that Healing and Revival Materias on everyone should be the norm.
Titan and Bahamut Arisen Boss Strategy¶
The only mechanic in this battle is a very simple one, as it’s something that carries over from the normal Titan summon battle. If you can recall, at some point during that fight, Titan would erect what was essentially a shield that would protect him from all damage, until it was destroyed. That mechanic will carry over into this double summon bout, with both receiving the barrier from the outset of the battle. Thankfully, you only have to destroy the barrier on one foe for it to drop on both, but the one you do directly destroy will become pressured.
Outside of the above, the rest of the battle is pretty standard and there are no other tricks. At the beginning of the fight, you will have to make a choice, whether to go after Bahamut Arisen or Titan first. Bahamut is more dangerous, as Gigaflare is extremely powerful and you don’t want that happening, but he has more health so he’ll take longer to defeat. Titan has less HP and an apparent Wind weakness, so he will be alot easier to down, but you run the risk of Bahamut gaining access to Gigaflare. So, it’s probably just a good idea to go after Bahamut Arisen first.
If you forgot the mechanics behind Bahamut, then Synergy Skills and Abilities will help with the particles that spawn from his attacks. These particles will attach to you and eventually explode, but doing either of the above will get rid of them, while also temporarily pressuring Bahamut. If you see him use Particle Charge, then target his wings to try and break them, as that is the main method of him changing forms and eventually reaching Gigaflare.
It’s most likely that Titan will get off an Earthen Fury, which is his ultimate attack, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. This is weaker than Gigaflare, though, but make sure you are ready to heal after it. In fact, for the first portion of the game, when both summons are on the field, you should try to keep your health as close to full as possible. Bahamut and Titan can both be quite aggressive at times, so things can be a little overwhelming.
Once you down Bahamut, all you’ll have left is to defeat Titan, which is much easier. This will bring this tempering trial to a close, so it’s time to move onto the others.
