Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Gongaga Reactor - Tifa

By
Jarrod Garripoli

After felling the Specimen H1024, Scarlet chimes in and corners the others at the reactor. The game will then switch to Gongaga, where Cissnei and the rest of the party will see the Shinra planes. This prompts the game to switch control over to Tifa, the character you’ll control on the field. You’ll need to quickly make your way to the reactor to help out your team.

Cissnei hands over some grappling guns, which will prove useful shortly.

Bouncing to the Reactor

Before leaving, make sure that you outfit your characters with the Materia that were on your other team. This is important, since this team will also face a boss near the end of their journey here. Once you are good to go, head on over to the stables in Gongaga and you’ll be presented with some Chocobos. Cissnei will also hand over a grappling gun, which will become useful in just a little bit. With that out of the way, it’s time to set off for the reactor.

As pointed out by the tutorial window, the Chocobos for the "Gongaga Region" iconGongaga Region are able to utilize the large mushrooms, essentially using them as trampolines. They can also slide along certain tree branches, so keep a lookout for those. Once you are in control, follow the path to the bottom, where you will see one of these mushrooms. Simply move towards it and the game will take care of the rest, with your party being launched quite a ways away from it. You will land right next to another mushroom, so use that one, too.

(1 of 2) The large mushrooms can only be used while riding a Chocobo.

Go up the incline upon landing and continue using the mushrooms you find. When you arrive at the Mako Wastes Cache Location, there will be one final mushroom that will bring you right in front of the reactor. Of course, things aren’t clear, as you’ll encounter some Shinra troops out front, so take them out. After the coast is clear, you will see that the gate is locked, so you’ll need to find another way inside. Thankfully, those grappling guns you received will do just the job.

Look above the locked gate to see a button prompt, so use it to latch on with your grappling gun, sending you over the wall. Use the nearby ladder to get to the ground, then head on over to the side opposite to the entrance. There is another grappling point here, so zoom on up there to find a chest, which contains x10 "Exquisite Beast Hide" iconExquisite Beast Hides. It’s now time to enter the reactor.

(1 of 3) Use the grappling gun to get over the first gate of the reactor.

Inside the Gongaga Reactor - Tifa

Once you’re inside, simply follow the path until you reach the long corridor where you initially jumped down with Cloud. It is flooded now, so you’ll need to do some swimming. When you reach the platform at the far end of the room, climb onto it and look up to find a grappling point. When you grapple twice, stop and look northeast for a ledge. On this ledge is a purple chest that contains a new weapon for Tifa. The grapple point is directly north on the minimap, so go up and open the chest for the "Tiger Fangs" iconTiger Fangs.

The rest of this place can be a bit confusing, so let’s take a look at it. On the southern side of this area are two "Chimera Mimic" iconChimera Mimics. Grapple up to the platform above them, then go up one more level. From here, you should be able to get to the adjacent area, where you can drop down to fight some "Amphidex" iconAmphidexes and a "Grangalan" iconGrangalan. Defeat them, then open the nearby chest for a "Hi-Ether" iconHi-Ether. While on this side, begin scaling using your grappling gun, until you reach the catwalk with another battle.

From there, continue upward until you reach the generator that you can push. Grab a hold of it and push it towards the wall, which will bring the plug closer to the gate you need to open. When you’ve done this, head towards the middle and slide down the rope there to get back to the generator. Plug in the cord to open the door, then grapple to the top, where you will find more Shinra soldiers. Upon dispatching them, follow the main path, using the grappling gun when applicable.

(1 of 4) You can see a purple chest sitting on a ledge not far into the reactor.

There are no more treasures along the way and the path is pretty linear, so you’re not getting lost. Once you drop down to a circular arena, you will have to fight some Slug-Rays. Be careful of their Spearhead attack, as it can stun the character it hits. There is one more battle right in the area with the rest bench, so when the coast is clear, you can rest up and climb some more. Ignore the helicopter shooting at you and at the top, slide down the rope to reach the others. Watch the scene, then get ready for another boss battle!
