Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Morph Materia Guide

By
Jarrod Garripoli

The Morph Materia in Final Fantasy VII was a special one that allowed you to turn enemies into items, some of which were very good, like Sources that could permanently increase your characters’ base stats. While it didn’t make an appearance in Final Fantasy VII Remake, it has returned in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Considering the change to a more action-based combat, the Morph Materia still functions similarly to the original.

The Morph Materia allows you to turn enemies into items.

Morph Materia Location in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

It’s not entirely clear where you will get the Morph Materia in Rebirth, as the majority of this information is based on the Junon demo. In that, Cloud is equipped with it, so it may be something you get in the Mythril Mines, or along the way prior to that. It’s also likely that it may also be something you get later in the game and Cloud is just equipped with it for demo purposes.

How to Use the Morph Materia in FF7 Rebirth

Morph is similar to what it was in the original game, although it doesn’t deal any damage at all in Rebirth. In the original, Morph would deal damage equal to 1/8 of a normal attack and if it would kill the enemy, they would become an item. As mentioned, Morph does not deal damage in Rebirth, but it can still turn enemies into items. In order to do this, you will need to bring an enemy’s HP down to a certain threshold first.

(1 of 3) You’ll need to bring an enemy’s HP down low enough to use Morph.

It’s not exactly clear what that threshold is, which makes it a little difficult to successfully achieve a Morph on a weaker enemy, especially since your other party members will continue attacking. A good ballpark figure, though, is around 10-15% of their max HP. If you see something like “this enemy is too healthy,” then that’s your cue to try and reduce their HP some more. When a Morph is done right, the enemy will disappear from the battlefield, as if you defeated it normally, and you will receive an item.

So, what do you actually get when you successfully Morph an enemy? Well, that depends on the enemy itself. If one can be Morphed, then whenever you use Assess on that enemy, you will see the item listed under Morphable Items. Sometimes, this doesn’t differ from the normal item it drops, but it will sometimes be the same as the rare item drop. There are even instances where the Morphable item is completely different, so it’s important to always check out the enemy intel.
