Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

The Forgotten Capital

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Welcome to the final chapter of the main story in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which will start off with a number of cutscenes. There isn’t really much exploring to be done in this finale, since the game warned you about the point of no return at the beginning of Chapter 13. The final descent into the last stretches of the story won’t happen right away, as there’s a bit to do before then.

Chapter 14 is the final bit of the main story for FFVII Rebirth.

In A Dream

After some cutscenes, you will finally be in control of Cloud inside Aerith’s house. Follow her downstairs, then you’ll be outside, in Sector 5. At certain points, you will be asked to pick something, but the choice doesn’t really matter here. In between each of the choices, just follow Aerith until you trigger another cutscene. There really will be a lot of cutscenes here, so just follow along until you eventually end up in some kind of forest. Here, you will have to do battle with some Whispers, but they have fairly low health, so they shouldn’t present any trouble.

Sleeping Forest

You’ll be controlling Cloud here and as you follow the rest of the party, there will be conversations with each of them. Note that you should take the time to start preparing for the following bosses, as you will be using all of the characters. It’s a good idea to equip everyone with a "Healing Materia" iconHealing Materia and at least one or two elemental ones. Additionally, if you have enough Revival Materias, put them on everyone, as well as HP Up and MP Up materias. Precision Defense Focus and Steadfast Blocking are also good contenders, since the bosses aren’t easy, either. If you don’t do it now, you’ll get an opportunity in a little bit.

Eventually, you will reach the Forgotten Capital and when you regain control, drop down the rocky terrain. You will face off against more Whispers here, although these ones are actually enemies and not pushovers like earlier. There are four of them and they’ll begin things by putting down a ward on the ground. This will both buff and debuff your characters, with each one doing something a little different (Brutality Ward, for example, buffs physical attack and debuffs magic). They aren’t weak to anything and have access to all of the tier 2/3 spells.

(1 of 3) The wards cast by the Whispers will both buff and debuff your party.

Keep focused on one until it’s defeated and once you only have two left, they will become pressured. The rest of the battle should be a breeze at this point, though, so keep going until you defeat the remaining Whispers. After the battle is over, a wall of Whispers is erected, but somehow a hole is made and Cloud managed to get through alone. Follow the path to some kind of elevator, then keep going when you can to get to the final resting spot in the game.

This is the big point right here that was mentioned earlier, as the game even gives you a prompt for Final Preparations. You will definitely want everyone outfitted with their best equipment, with materia being a big boon in the upcoming battles. If you’re not playing on Hard, then stock up on items from the vending machine, too. It also helps to make a separate save file here, just in case, even though you cannot technically leave to do anything else.

When your preparations are complete, follow the path to the altar for a lot of cutscenes that will eventually lead into the boss, Jenova Lifeclinger!
