Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Nibelheim Flashback

By
Jarrod Garripoli

The story opens with a slight recap of Final Fantasy VII Remake’s events, before going into a troubling scene. As the game zooms out from the reporter, it will zoom in on another scene, with some familiar faces. Keep watching as the story unfolds and once all is said and done, you will finally be in control of Zack.

The beginning of the game starts with a short recap of Remake’s end.

Interlude - A World Apart

Don’t bother searching around the area, as there’s nothing hidden, so look straight ahead to see some stairs. Continue into the building, follow the path inside and outside the other side. There’s only a single way to go here, so just run along the trail, jumping over the debris in the way, until you reach the downed helicopter you saw earlier. Some Shinra soldiers will be present, so it’s time for a fight.

If you played Remake, then Zack fights similarly to Cloud. The Square button will perform normal attacks and if you keep pressing it, you will perform a combo. The Triangle button is assigned to something called a Combo Charge, but the gauge in the bottom left corner needs to be filled for you to use this. You don’t really have health here, so you can’t fall in battle, so just keep whacking the soldiers until they fall. More will show up, so do the same thing and after defeating them all, more scenes will play, bringing an end to this little interlude.

(1 of 2) You’ll have a brief moment of playing as Zack in the opening segments.

You’ll have a brief moment of playing as Zack in the opening segments. (left), You can’t get a game over, so just defeat the Shinra Grunts until you get a cutscene. (right)

Flashback - Nibelheim

The flashback begins with Cloud in a truck, traveling on the road, along with Sephiroth and some other Shinra soldiers. The truck will stop and you’ll have to fight a monster while controlling Sephiroth. You don’t really need to do much here, so rather than do a tutorial on fighting as Sephiroth, just use normal attacks to dispatch the Disgorgon. After the battle is over, there will be a few more scenes, and then you will regain control in "Nibelheim" iconNibelheim.

You’ll receive a brief tutorial on some things, then you’re off on your own. Head to the inn first and go inside, where you can approach the man with his back turned for a scene. This man is Zangan, who trained Tifa in martial arts. Other than some dialog, though, there’s nothing else here, so exit the inn after the scene is over. In the middle of the square is a water tower, so look for the ladder on the side and climb to the top for another scene.

There’s a little bit of sightseeing left here in Nibelheim, both to the east of the water tower. The building further to the north is Cloud’s mom’s house, so go inside when prompted for more scenes. The house to the south of that is Tifa’s home, where you can do a few things. You can inspect the cat’s dish in the kitchen for some dialog, then go upstairs for more. There is a chest in the one room upstairs, which contains an "Ether" iconEther, and Tifa’s room has two things you can examine.

(1 of 6) Visiting certain spots in the town, such as the water tower, will leads to cutscenes.

In Tifa’s room, inspect the cupboard right in front of you and select “Yes” for some amusing dialog. You can also check out the piano in her room, although you can’t really do anything with it right now. In the demo, there was a Music Sheet here, but that’s no longer the case in the full game. While you can play the piano here, it won’t do anything, so you can safely ignore it. Exit the house and go towards the southern side of the town, where you can find another chest with a "Mega-Potion" iconMega-Potion just over a small fence. Towards the northwestern corner of the town is another chest, with another Mega-"Potion" iconPotion.

Once you’re done exploring Nibelheim, return to the inn, pushing past all the people clamoring to see Sephiroth. Head upstairs and you’ll see the man himself, staring out the window and reminiscing. This leads to more scenes, with you learning your childhood friend, Tifa, is your guide to lead you to the reactor.
