Throughout the entirety of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, you will be doing some side content revolving around something called the Protorelics. Upon collecting them all, you will unlock the game’s superboss, who happens to be the interdimensional man of mystery himself, Gilgamesh. However, before you’re able to fight him, you’ll have to go through some trials, which involve fighting dual summon battles. One of those will pit you against both Odin and Alexander, a formidable duo, at the Shrine of the Full Moon.
Character Loadouts¶
Odin is fairly neutral to everything, so there doesn’t really need to be anything equipped for him. Alexander, on the other hand, is weak to lightning, so you will be preparing for him more. Put Lightning linked to Elemental on two of your main attackers here, which will help in the long run, especially when you start attacking Alexander. Other than that, the rest of the materia you use is pretty standard. Instead of pairing Barrier and Magnify together, put the latter with the Time Materia, so you can get Haste on everyone as soon as possible.
Odin and Alexander Boss Strategy¶
When the fight starts, the first thing you want to do is go right after Odin and completely ignore Alexander. If you remember the solo fight with Odin, he will be quite the handful, since he can one-hit kill your characters with Zantetsuken. However, you have the ability to prevent this, as long as you keep the pressure up on Odin by striking him with ATB abilities or just using Punisher Mode’s counter with Cloud. Note that Cloud’s Counterstance skill can also work, but you need to watch out for Odin’s Reprisal that can stop ATB abilities sometimes. If you see Gjallarhorn’s Warning, then that means Zantetsuken is close and you should probably reset the fight.
If you see him use Sleipnir’s Furor, then you are doing good, as while this buffs him, it also pressures him at the same time. When you get him to do this, be ready to start building the stagger gauge as quickly as possible. Ideally, you want to stagger Odin on the first time he’s pressured, as it reduces the chances of something going wrong and having him use Zantetsuken. Once staggered, dish out as much damage as possible, since you want to try and get him to around half health. At this point, Odin will use Vanish and remove himself from the battlefiend, allowing you to turn your attention to Alexander.
The fight with Alexander is the standard battle at this point, but you want to push things quick and hard. Thankfully, he won’t really move, although he can teleport to another spot on the field. With the normal battle, you have to go after Alexander’s arms first, so start doing that. Concentrate on one arm at a time and move onto the second one, once the first has been destroyed. With both gone, Alexander will be pressured, so you will need to be quick in staggering him before he gets off Divine Judgement. It’s best to not worry about any of the karma stuff here and just focus on staggering/defeating Alexander.
If you don’t finish him off before the stagger ends, then Odin will be coming back and things will get extremely messy. You definitely don’t want to leave Odin alone, due to his ultimate, but you will also want to finish off Alexander. However, it is best to go back to Odin and try to defeat him, should you have both on the field still. If you see Alexander preparing a Divine Judgement, heal your characters and get ready to heal them after it. Fight Odin the same way as the beginning of the battle to eventually down him, then go after Alexander again.
Should you have gotten rid of Alexander prior to Odin reappearing, then you only have the horse-rider left. He won’t be any different than if you fought him alone here, so continue what you did at the beginning to get him to use Sleipnir’s Furor. Don’t be afraid to use debuffs, either, should you have them equipped via materia, as Odin is susceptible to the stat ones. This is definitely the toughest of the three double summon fights, so it make take a few tries to get into a good rhythm.
