If you wish to fully complete Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, you may be a little lost on what to do upon finishing the main story. You have Hard Mode to do, as well as the superboss, and even the Combat Simulator. Diving into any of the above challenges might prove to be quite challenging, so it’s a good idea to find a nice place to start. This page will attempt to guide you on how to tackle the endgame content of Rebirth.
Complete Normal Content¶
The header for this is a little bit misleading, but what it’s saying is that you should try and complete everything you want to do on your first file. Whether this is on Easy, Normal or Dynamic, it’s best to do all of that content first before doing anything else. Good things to do are most of the Combat Simulator, all of the Quests, and any stuff pertaining to the open worlds. The only things you won’t be doing are the superboss, the Brutal/Legendary Combat Simulator and Hard Mode stuff.
Grind to Max Level¶
Upon completing the main story, you will likely be around level 50 or so for the entire party. While you may be able to still do some things, the toughest content in Rebirth will require you to be the max level, which is 70. Now, there are plenty of ways to go about this, as you could simply play through Hard Mode and you’ll eventually get to that point. However, this takes a lot of time and you might come across some situation where you’ll get stuck. For the easiest way to get to level 70, check out the Best Ways to Farm Experience page.
Grind AP for Materia¶
After getting everyone to level 70, it’s time to grind out some materia that you will be using. Ideally, you want certain materia all maxed out for each of your characters, although there are certain materia that are limited in quantity. You should have one of every elemental materia (Fire Materia, Ice Materia, Lightning Materia, Wind Materia), as well as the combination ones (Fire and Ice Materia, Lightning and Wind Materia). Every character should have a Healing Materia on them, as well as a Revival Materia. Additionally, having a Prayer and Chakra for everyone is a good thing, too, although you probably won’t need seven Chakra Materias.
Other materia that will be good for the post-game stuff include Swiftcast, Magnify, Elemental, MP Absorption, HP Absorption, Magic Focus, Warding, Steadfast Block (should always have three mastered, at least), Precision Defense (again, three should suffice), seven HP Ups, some MP Ups, Strength Up, and Magic Up. Another good idea is to have the Enemy Skill Materia mastered as well, although this was likely mastered as you went through the game (if you had it equipped). Check out the Best Ways to Farm AP page for methods of grinding this all out.
Superboss Silenced¶
While it was possible to maybe do the superboss prior to beating the main story, all of the battles surrounding it are designed for level 70 characters. That’s why it’s in the postgame section here, despite being able to unlock the superboss prior. In order to do this, simply do all of the Protorelic stuff in all of the regions to unlock the superboss, who will be on an island by itself in the northern part of the sea. There’s a few bigger fights to do before you actually get to the superboss itself, though, which aren’t exactly pushovers.
Hard Mode Stuff¶
With the majority of the grinding out of the way, it’s time to focus on the Hard Mode stuff. Remember that you cannot use items in Hard Mode and normal benches only restore HP, but Chococo Stops can restore both HP and MP (the ones that use Cushions). You can do one of two things in this step, with the first being to focus on the side quests first. If you did these on your first playthrough, then you can choose Chapter 12 (reset quest data) and pick Hard Mode. The majority of these will give your party Manuscripts, which means more SP and more Weapon Levels, which in turn will give you access to more of the Folios and buffs for weapons.
You can also do the Classified Intel enemies on Hard at this time, too. These foes will also drop some Manuscripts, plus their item drops are also enhanced versions. Doing this will allow you to craft the Genji equipment, which are powerful accessories that can prove useful in the long run, especially the Genji Gloves that let you break the 9,999 damage limit. Doing all of this will get you prepared for the actual Hard Mode story playthrough.
Doing Hard Mode’s story run won’t be entirely simple, but you don’t need to worry about regular mobs much at all. If you can skip the normal enemies, feel free to do it, especially if you have to do something like spend MP on the fight. Remember to keep in mind the boss fights during each chapter, as if it’s the final one, then you can freely spend MP. Likewise, if it’s a chapter where you have different parties across fights, then you could spend MP with the one party, provided a character isn’t used later on.
The majority of the bosses don’t really offer anything too new, except that they might enter an enraged state earlier than usual, if they have one. There are a few bosses that might be quite challenging, depending on how things go, especially the solo ones in some of the later chapters. Understanding the boss mechanics will really help with those, though, so if you don’t understand everything, check out the specific page for that boss in the Walkthrough.
Brutal/Legendary Combat Simulator¶
While this step could be interchanged with the previous one, it’s included as last on this because the battles are quite challenging. You pretty much know what to kind of expect with Hard Mode and while the reward from completing all of the Brutal Challenges is awesome, it’s not necessary. Note you will need to defeat the superboss in order to unlock these, so make sure you do that before committing to it. There are six Brutal Challenges and nine Legendary Bouts, with seven of the nine Legendary Bouts being solo character ones.
As mentioned above, these are not easy and will be the culmination of everything you’ve learned in the game, which is why they are last. Some of them are also quite long, so it can be frustrating to be on the last fight and then lose. Don’t let that dishearten you, though, as keeping calm and using your knowledge will have you prevail. There are some very strong builds out there, though, that can make these challenges quite easy.
