There are a lot of minigames to be found in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, some of which are entirely new. Crunch-Off is a sit-up minigame that has been created solely for Rebirth. On this page, we’ll navigate you through the necessary steps to starting the Crunch-Off minigame and how to beat Jules.
How to Unlock the Sit-Ups Minigame in FF7¶
Once you’ve made it to Costa Del Sol in Chapter 6 of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth you’ll want to progress through the main story until you’ve completed the beach segment, then you can accept the Bodybuilders in a Bind Side Quest from the noticeboard. Here you’ll need to visit Jules’s Gym in the Corel Region and help him clear out some unwanted guests. Upon completing this side quest you’ll gain access to the Sit-ups minigame (Crunch-off). You’ll need to complete four ranks of the crunch-off minigame in order to claim all of the rewards and each rank will get slightly more difficult by increasing the number of reps you need to do to win along with adding new mechanics.
We recommend that you completely avoid looking at the time and the number of reps your opponent has done otherwise it’ll massively put you off and increase your chances of messing up. Unfortunately, the buttons that you’ll need to press will disappear from your screen throughout the set, so you’ll need to pay close attention to Tifa’s movement to make it easier to time your button presses.
Sit-Ups Rewards¶
There are four rewards up for grabs in the sit-up minigame, but the most important rewards is the Champion Belt and Supernatural Wristguards.
Rank | Reward |
---|---|
1 | Celeris x3 |
2 | Supernatural Wristguards |
3 | Chakra Materia |
4 | Champion Belt |
How to Complete The Sit-Up Minigame¶
There are four opponents you’ll need to beat in the Crunch-Off Minigame to claim all of the rewards.
Crunch-Off: Warm-Up¶
Amina will challenge you in the Crunch-Off: Warm-Up and she’ll always get a top score of 16, so you’ll need at least 17 to beat her. Throughout your set against Amina, you’ll sometimes see the buttons glow yellow which means you’ll need to mash that button to keep going. Additionally, If you restart then the button combination can change from R1, L1, L2, R2 to L1, R1, R2, L2 which may throw you off.
Crunch-Off: Trainee¶
Ronnie will challenge you in the Crunch-Off: Trainee level and he’ll always get a top score of 20, so you’ll need at least 21 to beat him. However, this time a new mechanic will be in play in the form of a green glow around a button. This will require you to hold the designated button halfway until the gauge is full before fully pressing it down. Throughout the set against Ronnie you’ll have to deal with both of the special buttons, so be sure to double-check what color it is before pressing it.
Crunch-Off: Amateur Level¶
Jay will challenge you in the Crunch-Off: Amateur Level and he’ll always get a top score of 22, so you’ll need at least 23 sit-ups to beat him. There are no new special buttons to deal with this time around, but the buttons will be in a different sequence, such as L1, R1, L2, R2 instead of L1, R1, R2, L2. We recommend that you take a couple of practice attempts to familiarize yourself with the new layout.
Crunch-Off: Pro Level¶
The one and only Jules will challenge you in the Crunch-Off: Pro Level and this will by far be the most difficult one yet, as it’ll combine all of the mechanics in the previous three rounds together, and he’ll only fail once at the beginning and once towards the end of the set. He’ll get a top score of 50, so you’ll need at least 51 to beat him. As soon as you’ve gone above 20 reps, you’ll be able to ignore the timing and instead press the buttons as fast as your hands will let you, but beware you’ll have to watch for the special buttons in between. If you fail even once then you’ll want to restart.

I just lost 26-30 to Jay, so he doesn't always get a top score of 22. This mini game is cooked, just like the Rufus Welcoming Ceremony parade mini game.
