AP Up Materia Guide - Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

By
Shane Williams

There are lots of Materia to track down in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and they all offer unique abilities, such as AP Up which increases the amount of AP earned for the linked materia by 100%. On this page, we’ll provide you with the necessary steps to finding the "AP Up Materia" iconAP Up Materia and how to best use it.

The AP Up Materia can be found in the Mythrill Mine.

AP Up Materia Location in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

There are a couple of ways of getting your hands on the AP Up Materia but the earliest point you can find one is in the "Mythril Mine" iconMythril Mine which takes place in Chapter 3. It can be found in a room which is reached by heading up some broken stairs and walking across a narrow pathway after Barret and "Red XIII" iconRed XIII has left the party. If you want to make sure you don’t miss anything else in the Mythril Mine then be sure to check out our Mythril Mine Walkthrough. Alternatively, you can obtain an AP Up Materia by completing the Corel Battle Intel: Badlands Beasts in the Combat Simulator, but this won’t be accessible until Chapter 9, so you’ll want to make sure you get the one in the Mythril Mine first.

There are additional locations where you’ll find more AP Up Materia in the game. Two Combat Simulator trials will also grant you one as a reward, which are Corel Battle Intel: Badlands Beasts and Nibel Battle Intel: Cthonian Rhondo. Once you have access to the harder challenges in the Musclehead Colosseum, doing the Six-Person Bout: Ululating Quartet will grant you another one. When you reach Chapter 13 of the main story, there will be a series of very short trials. Upon finishing the first big batch, you’ll be in a room with a bunch of doors. Head straight west to that door and go inside the room there to find an AP Up Materia on the ground.

How to Use the AP Up Materia in FF7 Rebirth

Once you’ve obtained an AP Up Materia, head on over to the Materia & Equipment Option in the menu and then you want to place it in a linked slot, as this will massively increase the amount of AP the other materia will obtain after battles. This will be a really important materia to have available for the first half of the game, as you’ll want to level a variety of materia for their skills and stat boosts and a lot of them will require a lot of AP.

If there is a certain materia you’ll want to use to hit an elemental weakness in an upcoming battle but you don’t want to waste the AP Up slot, then we recommend that you use the Level Boost Materia instead, as this will temporally raise the level of any materia linked to it by one. You’ll notice that quite a few materia in the game will require you to obtain a lot of AP so there will be ones that you’ll want to combine with the AP Up materia first. Check out the list below to find out what materia we think is the most important to level up first.

  • Elemental + AP Up Materia
  • Warding + AP Up Materia
  • Magnify + AP Up Materia
  • Healing Materia + AP Up Materia
  • Fire and Ice Materia + AP Up Materia
