Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

All Playable Characters

By
Jarrod Garripoli

One of the highlights of Final Fantasy VII Remake is the ability to control different characters in battle, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. That will extend to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which will have more playable characters. This page will list all of the playable characters in Rebirth, along with a short description.

Cloud is the main protagonist of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Cloud Strife

As a former member of SOLDIER, Cloud came to Midgar to do work as a mercenary, but got roped into a job with the eco-terrorist group known as Avalanche, thanks to his childhood friend, Tifa. He wields a giant sword in combat and fights by switching between modes specializing in mobility and offense.

Barret Wallace

Barret is the leader of an independent Avalanche cell, with his main goal being to bring down Shinra and save the planet. He wields a Gunarm on his one arm and can use various attachments with it. He is quite sturdy, kind of acting like the party’s tank, and is a long-ranged combatant. If you have enemies in the air or out of reach, then Barret will be your man.

Tifa Lockhart

Tifa is the childhood friend of Cloud and a loyal member of Avalanche. However, she sometimes questions the extremist tactics that the group uses, leading her to internal conflict. Utilizing Gloves in combat, Tifa is quite quick and agile, using a lot of martial arts techniques to deal with enemies.

Aerith Gainsborough

Aerith is a flower seller who lives in Sector 5, and she first meets Cloud on the streets. It is later revealed that she is the last remaining descendant of the Cetra, a group of people known for communing with the planet. She uses a Staff in combat and utilizes magic, being able to shoot it from a safe distance. Aerith can also conjure up wards that allow her to increase a magic’s power, as well as warp between them.

Red XIII

Part of a species that has a long life span, Red XIII was captured by Shinra and he was subjected to experiments by Professor Hojo. Thanks to Cloud and his crew, he was able to escape from Shinra and joins them on their quest. Red’s weapon is his Collar, although he fights more like a beast than anything. By guarding against attacks, his Vengeance gauge will increase, which he can activate to increase his speed and power.

Red XIII will finally be controllable in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Yuffie Kisaragi

Yuffie is a member of Wutai’s elite corps of ninja operatives, where she came to Midgar to seal the “ultimate materia.” However, she ultimately failed and eventually comes across Cloud’s group, joining them on their adventures. Yuffie’s weapon is the Throwing Star and she is both a close-range and long-range combatant. Her elemental ninjutsu allows her to take advantage of enemy weaknesses, without using actual magic.

Cait Sith

Cait Sith is a feline-shaped robot that is often seen sitting on top of his big moogle friend. In the original, Cait Sith wielded a megaphone for a weapon and it’s likely the same case in Rebirth. He is unique in battle, as he can act on his own, or summon his moogle mate to join in on the attack. Utilizing the moogle can change a lot of his abilities.
