While Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has a fantastic, detailed map, there are times where you need to be diligent if you want to complete a quest or task. This is especially true for completionists and Achievement/Trophy hunters, as some of these are easily missable. "Rosa's Book" iconRosa’s Book is one such Task that you can easily miss, the item in question can only be had during a specific main quest. Keep reading to learn how to retrieve this book and get to know "Rosa Ruthard" iconRosa Ruthard a little better.

Starting the Rosa’s Book Task

To be able to access the "Kuttenberg region" iconKuttenberg region, you’ll have to wait until you’ve progressed the main story a fair amount, indeed, it’s not until you complete the Storm quest that you’ll reach "Kuttenberg" iconKuttenberg for the first time, and then you’ll be locked into the introductory main quests of this region before you can jump on your horse and explore this massive region.

Once in this region, you’ll need to continue to advance the main quest until you reach the Taking French Leave quest, at which point you’ll be instructed to speak to Rosa to learn about a hidden entrance to "Maleshov" iconMaleshov Fort. After you learn where to go, you can ask her to come with you, do so and tell her she won’t be a burden, at which point she’ll ask you for a favor instead, starting Rosa’s Book.

(1 of 2) While on Taking French Leave, you will be directed to talk with Rosa.

While on Taking French Leave, you will be directed to talk with Rosa. (left), During this conversation, you can learn that she wants you to find a book that belongs to her during your Maleshov infiltration. (right)

Get the Book That Lady Rosa Asked You For

You’ll have to wait until you get inside the Fort during this same main quest before you can begin your search. Once you head through the secret tunnel and remove the stones to gain access (check out our "Taking French Leave" iconTaking French Leave guide linked above), your objective will change to Find Hans Capon, this is your sign that you’re in the right location, so consider making a hard save here just in case you miss out on the book.

After the scene with Von Bergow, you’ll find yourself on the battlements, rather out in the open. Make sure you have your “stealth” set equipped to keep noise to a minimum and then make your way south and through the door at the end. Knock out or Stealth Kill the soldier here and then make your way downstairs and open the door to your left.

You’ll find yourself in a kitchen with multiple directions to go, but what you’re looking for is the door to the east. Follow the path to the end and through another door, then make your way up the stairs to find another soldier taking a nap. Stealth Kill him and then take the "Maleshov fortress key" iconMaleshov fortress key on the table near the next set of stairs leading up (this leads to a "Cuirass with falds" iconCuirass with falds that’s well worth stealing). Back on the floor where you took the keys, open the northern door and then, when the coast is clear, go up the stairs in the courtyard and through the door (that the keys will open, otherwise use a "Lockpick" iconLockpick) to reach the main area you want to be (for Rosa’s Book and Hans).

(1 of 6) Go south on the battlements to find a door leading inside.

Once inside, go through the doorway to your left and take the stairs up to find some more doors. The one you want is the top one, unlock it and go through, then open the next door on your left to find Von Bergow’s quarters. If you see where the fireplace is, to the right of it is a window and on the side near there is "A book of humourous anecdotes." iconA book of humourous anecdotes. that is the very one Rosa tasked you with finding. At this point, you’ve fulfilled the objective for this Task, so follow the rest of our Taking French Leave guide to help get Hans out of Maleshov and finish the main quest.

Tell Lady Rosa How You Got on in Maleshov

Once you have control again after the lengthy cutscenes, take the chance to read through the book yourself if you’ve not already done so, this will open some more choices when you return to Rosa. Speaking of that very thing, return to Kuttenberg and pay Rosa a visit once more at her house, telling her that you’ve found the book she asked you to find. Answer with the following responses during the next scene (you must first read the book in your inventory):

  • “The author really isn’t holding back.”
  • “I would like that.”

(1 of 2) Go back to Rosa with the book and having read it yourself to get some choices.

Go back to Rosa with the book and having read it yourself to get some choices. (left), Then choose choices that will impress her when writing the book. (right)

This will allow you to begin writing a book with Rosa, for which she will ask you for your opinion on certain topics. Answer as follow:

  • “A woman.”
  • “She should be clever.”
  • “Only fools say that.”
  • “Good intent.”

Once you’ve finished the book with Rosa, you’ll get a few more choices to select, answer with “If only there were more such books.”, “It’s pretty, really.” and then, “I’d like to get to know you better sometime.”. This will put you in good favor with Rosa and you’ll be able to continue to build toward her romance later. At this point, Rosa’s Book comes to a close as you gain some Scholarship XP and unlock Rosa as a Skill Trainer.
