Henry came, he saw, and he conquered, becoming the honored fisticuffs champion of Trosky! Okay, he beat up some bored hired hands, musicians and barbers, but hey, you can’t choose your competition, and out of this lot, Henry’s the best! Unfortunately upon supposedly claiming his crown Henry was informed there was another foe he needed to trounce to truly claim the title of best brawler in Trosky. This page will provide a walkthrough for the task The Best for Last in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Page Breakdown¶
Starting The Best for Last¶
This quest will begin automatically when you complete both Melee at the Mill and Wine, Women and Blood. Defeat all three challengers at the Lower Semine Mill and the
Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn, then talk to Innkeeper Lawrence for your reward. This reward is tainted, however, by mention of another, superior fighter whose face has yet to grace your knuckles.

Find the Grand Champion¶
Innkeeper Lawrence isn’t very helpful when it comes to finding this elusive grandmaster, but fortunately your quest log is better, as you’ll get an objective pointing you north of Castle Trosky. If you’ve explored, you may know who this grandmaster is - if not, head to the objective (there’s a trail that leads there, so you don’t need to blindly scour the forest for them) to find the abode of Herbalist Barnaby. Be sure to save your game before talking to him, then challenge him to a bout of fisticuffs. Barnaby is reluctant, but a persistent Henry can coax the old hermit herbalist into throwing down.
Defeat Herbalist Barnaby¶
You saved for a good reason - there’s a fair chance you might lose this fight. Barnaby is by far the strongest foe you’ve faced, and the old tactics probably won’t work. If you land a hit, continuing to swing might not bear fruit, as Barnaby is adept at blocking and dodging your attacks. Your own ability to block and counter will need to be on point to avoid taking undue damage, but generally you want to keep a moderate distance from Barnaby to avoid locking up (especially if you’re not familiar with how this mechanic works - it’s just giving free damage to Barnaby otherwise), landing singular hits if you can and dodging away when Barnaby gets too close.
(1 of 2) Barnaby is skill at blocking and countering,
Barnaby is skill at blocking and countering, (left), so avoid clinching up, take what hits you can, dodge away as needed, and settle for one attack at a time. (right)
Ignore his taunts and fight methodically and you should win a war of attrition, especially if you avoid the clinch. If you find yourself having trouble with this fight, you may need to raise your stats (primarily Strength and Vitality) and Unarmed, the latter of which you can improve by completing More Melee at the Mill quests which should pop up a few days after completing Melee at the Mill. Odds are, however, your Unarmed skill will be in the low teens during this fight, and you probably won’t know any combos, so you’ll be at something of a disadvantage.
(1 of 3) Beat Barnaby and he’ll teach you the Elbow Uppercut combo,
Win the fight and Barnaby will immediately reward you by teaching you the Elbow Uppercut Unarmed combo, which should help your pugilism going forward. Have a drink with Barnaby following the match and succeed at some hard or medium Speech checks to learn the herbalist’s sad backstory. Following this, Barnaby will offer to teach Henry in various skills, including Unarmed,
Alchemy and Survival (all Apprentice level). This is a fine opportunity to burn some groschen to fortify your Unarmed skill for fights to come! Finally, beating Barnaby will solidify Henry as the best brawler in Trosky, earning you the Henry the Bruiser achievement!
