Cabbage Thief Walkthrough

There are many things that can motivate Henry to venture into the unknown - his duty to Hans, a desire to reclaim his slain father’s stolen sword, to protect Bohemia from the machinations of Sigismund… or to look into the matter of some stolen cabbages. Hey, not all quests have to have high stakes, and simple-seeming matters can lead to sinister discoveries and great treasures. This page will provide a walkthrough for the freeform quest "Cabbage" iconCabbage Thief in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Page Breakdown

Starting Cabbage Thief

As a free form quest, you shouldn’t expect a grandiose or well-marked start to this quest. Instead, find Bailiff Thrush in "Troskowitz" iconTroskowitz and ask him “What’s new?” and he’ll divulge a deluge of tips and info at you, including some peasants who have been complaining about their cabbage being stolen. This doesn’t get you a quest marker or anything, but it will mark the location of a "Grocer" iconGrocer on your map a good ways south of Troskowitz.

Head to this marked Grocer on the map and provided it’s during the day time you should find a male Peasant walking around or working the fields. Talk to him and inquire about the robbery to learn the location of the cabbage patch and little else.

(1 of 3) Talk to Bailiff Thrush and one of the bits of gossip he’ll let slip is the theft of some cabbage.

Follow the Cabbage Trail

You’ll find the pilfered cabbage patch northeast of the farm house, and sure enough, many of the heads of cabbage have been dug up. More curiously, numerous loose heads of cabbage have been left on the ground nearby, and you can follow these southeast to a nearby road, where you can find more cabbage forming a trail you can follow.

The thief presumably can be found at the end of this cabbage trail, and following the cabbage trail makes up the majority of the quest. That said, the trail at times is pretty sparse and you’ll be walking a long distance, so if you don’t have a few hours to spare you may want to rest until morning. When you’re ready, follow the cabbage trail south, southwest and west from the cabbage patch until you reach the southern edge of the farm.

Take a path into the woods to the southwest and continue following it southwest past a fork until you exit the woods at a road running east-west. Follow this road west and keep an eye out for cabbages as you go. Eventually you’ll find a bridge south leading to "Nebakov Fortress" iconNebakov Fortress - keep going west from here and keep your eye to the left (south) as you’ll find another path leading south a fair distance ahead, and this one is a lot harder to spot. If you’re looking out, you should eventually spot a cabbage in some tall foliage, marking a path to the south that crosses two shallow streams. Across the second one you’ll find another cabbage letting you know you’re on the right track. Continue following the trail south, and the beaten dirt eventually gives way to a path of trampled grass - keep following this fading trail until you reach another rocky stream where another cabbage awaits you.

If you made it this far, you’re pretty much home free - you can still keep an eye out for cabbages, but the rocky stream is a more faithful guide. Follow it south, southeast and eventually you’ll find a small bridge - three logs stuck together, really - crossing the stream. Cross the bridge and you’ll find a wagon full of cabbage just beyond, and further east, northeast you’ll find some white stone cliffs, near which resides a lout named "Sauerkraut" iconSauerkraut Pepa.

(1 of 4) Follow a trail of cabbages south and west,

Choice: Turn Sauerkraut Pepa in or Let Him Go

Talk to Sauerkraut Pepa and you’ll quickly determine that he’s a dullard who had the bright idea to steal cabbage so he could craft and sell sauerkraut. He just so happens to make a mean batch of the stuff (some of which he’ll share with Henry to convince him), after which you’ll be left with a few choices: you can pick a fight with Sauerkraut Pepa, you can tell Sauerkraut Pepa that you plan to turn him into the bailiff, or you can let Sauerkraut Pepa go… then either keep your promise, or tell Bailiff Thrush about him, anyways.

Killing Sauerkraut Pepa is an easy enough task - he’s no warrior, not even a hardened criminal, although he does fight back to the best of his limited ability. He doesn’t have much worth looting, and if you return to Bailiff Thrush afterwards you won’t even be able to mention the killing - you’ll be given a reward and Bailiff Thrush will act as if there’s still a thief to apprehend. If you tell Sauerkraut Pepa that you’re going to turn him in, he seems optimistically resigned to that outcome and won’t endeavor to hinder you.

Despite all the window dressing, if you tell Bailiff Thrush about Sauerkraut Pepa, you’ll be given a heft reward (we raked in 789 groschen - a princely sum at this point in the game!). If you do not turn him in, Sauerkraut Pepa will offer to make you more of his patented sauerkraut, giving you some to start out with and more if you bring him cabbages. The amount you’ll get depends on the number of cabbages you drag here, but keep in mind that Sauerkraut Pepa can’t make use of cabbages with insufficient Freshness (he refused them at 50 Freshness for us), but the cabbage trail respawns, so you could just keep bringing him those cabbages, if you cared to.

(1 of 3) You can confront Sauerkraut Pepa and either put him down in combat,

"Pepa's Sauerkraut" iconPepa’s Sauerkraut only provides +2 Nourishment, but heals for +10 Health and does not spoil. It’s also weightless, making them functionally low-quality - but imperishable and weightless - healing items. They also sell for a few groschen a pop, but if you’re after money, turning Sauerkraut Pepa in is definitely the way to go.
