Starting The Axe on the Lake¶
To accept the task, you will need to head over to the small village of Tachov, situated west of Trosky Castle. In the barn, you’ll find the farmhand, Zdenyek the Mouth. If you can’t find him, speak to the Innkeeper, who should point you in the right direction. Speak to Zdenyek, who will tell you a tale about two brothers and a silver axe.

Finding the Silver Axe¶
Your objective will point you to the southwest of Tachov, north of the Nomad Camp, near Rocktower Pond. Fast Travel to Rocktower Pond and follow the road east toward the objective. The first part of the tale mentions Matthias encountering a Water Goblin, so follow the path northeast until you reach the intersection, and then head southeast through the forest toward the water, where you’ll find the Water Goblin’s Hut.
(1 of 2) From the Rocktower Pond Fast Travel, follow the road east.
From the Rocktower Pond Fast Travel, follow the road east. (left), Eventually, you’ll reach the Water Goblin’s Hut, which is slightly off the beaten path. (right)
The next part of the story mentions that you should go uphill between the rocks to the place where an old oak tree grows. From the hut, head back to the path and follow it northeast, and it’ll eventually lead uphill to the north. This path takes you “between the rocks”, so follow the path until there are no more rocks on either side and then head northeast into the forest. Continue northeast through the forest, and you’ll soon encounter a “Big Stone” that you can look at, which Henry will recognize it’s the one from the story.
The last part of the story mentions going to the top of the hill past the stone to find where Matthias is buried. Hope you didn’t forget the shovel! From the Big Stone, go northeast up the hill, and the grave you’re looking for will be a bit further down on the other side of the hill. Dig up the grave with the shovel that you totally didn’t forget, and collect the “Broken Axe”.
(1 of 5) As you head north on the path, go past the rocks on either side, and head up the hill to the right.
Repairing the Broken Axe¶
Now that you have the axe, it’s time to repair it. Head to the nearest Blacksmith Anvil, if you can’t remember where they are, Trosky Castle has one. Interact with the anvil and switch to the Axes tab. There, you’ll find the Adorned Axe, which requires the Broken Axe you found, and one Fastening Material, which should be able to be purchased from the Blacksmith. Begin to craft the axe by placing the piece of metal into the forge, and Blow it until it turns a golden color. Place it on the anvil, and bang the piece of metal EVENLY until it takes shape. Henry will let you know when it’s ready.
(1 of 3) Head to the Blacksmith, use the Anvil, and select the Adorned Axe.
Return to Zdenyek¶
Now that you’ve finished restoring the old axe, it’s time to head back to Zdenyek back in Tachov. Return to him and show him the axe, and he’ll be surprised that you even found one, as the tale he spun you is a fairy tale that has changed many times over the years. You won’t get anything for telling Zdenyek, but it will complete the quest. The reward is the axe itself. That’s it for The Axe on the Lake Task.
