Ever the very symbol of a knight in medieval Bohemia, Swords were one of the more common weapons of the period. Henry himself has some experience with them, and as a Blacksmith, his father forged an elegant Longsword that was stolen. Keep reading to learn how to level the Swords skill in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and which perks to unlock first.

Swords Uses and Effects¶
As one of the most common weapon types in the game, the Swords category covers a wide variety of weapons that you’ll find during the adventure. You’ll find Hunting Swords, Short Swords, Longswords, and Sabres all fit into this category, and their main characteristic is that they’re the most agile weapon type you can use.
It’s not all smooth sailing, however, as when you come up against heavily armored foes, you’ll find yourself struggling to pierce their thick defenses, so it’s a good idea to make sure you invest in more than one weapon type if swords are what you favor. The higher your Swords skill, the faster they’ll be, deal more damage, and will be harder for any enemy to block.
When it comes to the Perks you’ll find in this tree, you’ll want to make sure you read the text carefully, as many apply only to a specific type of Sword. It’s no good getting a Perk for a Sabre if you never use one, likewise, prioritize those that favor a particular weapon you’re fond of. Getting used to Longswords are always a good idea, especially as you’ll get a strong one for free during the course of Henry’s travels.
Going in search of battles are the best way to raise your Swords skill.
Leveling Swords¶
As with all of the weapon-based skills, the way to level them is rather self-explanatory, equip one of the swords mentioned above, whack some people, and watch the XP come in. As swords are the most common weapon-type in the game, you’ll have one on hand very quickly and you can then travel around the Trosky region looking for fights.
If you’re looking for bandits specifically to take on and kill for Swords XP, consider making frequent use of Fast Travel, as when you do, there’s a good chance to be stopped by Bandits or other nasty surprises. For the sake of grinding XP, accept the challenges of the road and put them to the sword to gain some sweet, sweet, XP.
The final method for leveling your Swords skill, like with every other skill in the game, is by making use of Skill Trainers and Skill Books. There’s not much to know about Skill Trainers beyond discovering their location and paying the requisite coin per rank you want to learn. You can find out how much each one costs below:
Skill Trainer Rank | ![]() |
---|---|
Basics | 100 |
Apprentice | 500 |
Journeyman | 1500 |
? | 5000 |
A lot of Skill Trainers can be found by discovering new areas, while some will become a Skill Trainer after completing a quest for them. One such Trainer is Gules, a former bandit turned soldier found in Lord Semine’s service, after completing the Bandit Leader quests, he will train you at Apprentice rank. Alternatively, the
Scribe in
Troskowitz will offer opportunities to sell Skill Books, with which you can read to learn specific skills.
Best Swords Perks¶
Every time your Swords skill reaches a new even level (so 6, 8, 10, etc.), you’ll get a Perk Point to spend, with each of these thresholds offering new Perks available to learn. While it is entirely possible to grab every Perk, that involves a massive amount of investment and as such, you’ll want to prioritize specific Perks. With that said, these are the Perks you should be looking to unlock as soon as possible:
Slice and Dice¶
When it comes to using swords in battle, you want to focus on quick strikes that often form a combo. With the Slice and Dice Perk, each successive strike in a sequence will cause more damage, so long as it’s not blocked, dodged, or parry. Combined with some of the other Perks in this category, this can really add up to some massive damage.
Magister Dimicator¶
Similar in nature to the Perk above, when you complete a combo (for which you can find the inputs in its respective tab), you’ll gain +5 to your Swordsmanship skill for 30 seconds, that’s a fairly long time in combat, and you can refresh the buff by performing another successful combo, which will be even easier.
(1 of 2) Opening Strike is a great Perk because you’ll naturally be aiming for undefended zones in combat.

Opening Strike I and II¶
The basic rules of engagement in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II centers around trying to aim your strike at a part of your opponent that isn’t being blocked. With the Opening Strike Perks, every time you hit an uncovered zone, you’ll make it harder for your opponent to block at all, making it far easier to continue the assault once you get that first strike.
Tendon Slicer¶
Remaining on the subject of sword combos, every time you perform a successful one (which the Perks above will make easier), you will lower your opponent’s Agility and Strength. This makes it much harder for them to retaliate against you and allow you to finish them off. With all of the Combo-related Perks together, odds are you’ll easily put anyone down after landing one successful combo.
List of Swords Perks¶
The table below will list all of the Perks you can find in the Swords tree, along with what level and other requirements they may have:
