One of the many side quests in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ransom can be collected from Jan of Suchotlesky during a random event near
Danemark. You’ll need to help Jan look for his brother who has been taken to Sigismund’s
Camp by Laszlo Farkas. There are multiple options and outcomes for this quest depending on which skill checks you pass, so we’ll walk you through all of the possibilities.
If you miss the ambush, you can find Jan in an inn.
How to start the Ransom side quest¶
After completing the main quest Speak of the Devil, fast travel to Danemark from
Kuttenberg. There’s a chance that you will encounter an ambush along the way. Help to clear the area, and afterwards look for Jan of Suchotlesky who should be sitting near the cart. Speak to him for an explanation of what just happened. He’ll ask you for a favour - he needs a hand negotiating the release of his brother from Sigismund’s Camp. Choosing to respond with “I can try” will begin the Ransom side quest, and Jan will give you a letter to take on your travels.
If you’ve already encountered the ambush and didn’t realise it begins the side quest, you can later find Jan in an inn on the road. Leave Kuttenberg to the west, and look for the Old Kutna Wagoners Inn. Jan will be injured in a bed upstairs. After healing him, you can start the quest from here.

How to find Peter of Suchotlesky¶
This optional quest step is actually fairly important if you want all of the information about Peter’s whereabouts before speaking to Laszlo. Make sure to speak to all of the optional people in Sigismund’s Camp to be given the location of Peter. Near that marker you’ll see a tent, but the area around it is considered trespassing. Instead, go around the back of the tent through a gap in the fence and sneak in. While there is a prisoner inside, it turns out this isn’t Peter. Instead, after giving him some food the man tells you that someone who could be Peter has already died, but you can go and check the corpses.
Follow the marked location on the map towards the bathhouse, and then go through the gap in the wagons. There’s a cart with a body on it, which sadly appears to be Peter.
Speaking to Laszlo about Peter
How to find Laszlo Farkas¶
You’ve got all the information you need to talk to Laszlo, who is found near the campfire, usually inside a red tent. Explain why you’re there, and that you know about the prisoner, Peter. If you have a high charisma statistic, you can explain that Jan doesn’t have the time to come over and look for him. It’s best to feign ignorance at this point, and let Laszlo set up a meeting.
Laszlo is unsurprisingly reluctant to let you see Peter, so ask about the ransom. Laszlo explains that Jan already knew about the ransom, but he will tell you where the handover location is - on a hill in between Miskowitz and
Horschan, at the mill. Pass a speech check here to be given Peter’s armor. If you fail it, Laszlo will keep it. You do have the option to confront Laszlo about Peter’s body, where he will admit the truth, but says that Jan will still get his brother back.
After finding Peter’s body and speaking to Laszlo, it’s time to tell Jan what’s happened. If you took the extra steps to find Peter’s body, Henry will gently break the news. Regardless of the way in which you deliver it or how much detail you give him, Jan wants revenge. Turning him down will fail the quest.
How to find reinforcements for Jan¶
This is an optional step, but you have some potential allies available to recruit as reinforcements for Jan’s justice mission. Depending on how far you’ve progressed their individual quests, your options are:
Kubyenka and Adder
- Emmeram and Linhart
Goliath and Hog
- Menhard’s Swordsmen
- The
Zimburg Brothers
- Mikesh and Kozliek
- Mercenaries from
Mesoles
We chose to bring along Goliath and Hog from the guild. Once recruited, head back to Jan and tell him you’re ready to set off.

Should you side with Jan or Laszlo?¶
A cutscene will play out at the handover location. Jan and Laszlo will negotiate, and you now have to choose whether to stay with Jan or side with Laszlo.
If you choose to stay with Jan, a fight begins and you’ll need to help take out Laszlo and his allies. If you decide to join Laszlo, you’ll have to kill Jan. Jan is the easier option here if your conscience can handle it - he’s not wearing any armour, so he dies easily.
Peter of Suchotlesky’s Sword
Ransom side quest rewards¶
If you choose to stay with Jan, you can speak to him after the fight to complete the quest. He will offer you Peter of Suchotlesky’s Sword from the back of the wagon as well as 125 Groschen. If you side with Laszlo, you can loot 500 Groschen from Jan’s body, and Laszlo will give you all of Peter’s armor, including his sword.
