Starting the Casper Task

Just life before, returning to Gules after a day or two has passed will present a new bandit for you to take out for him. Casper is the fourth and final such task in this questline and you’ll need to have completed Canker, Handsome Charlie, and Johnny the Gob first. On top of this, you won’t even be able to work on this questline if you didn’t leave Gules alive during The Jaunt, the second quest in the Blacksmith’s route to the wedding.

When you speak to him this time around, he’ll have ample warning about just what a threat Casper is. Additionally, he won’t have a direct location to where he’s holed up this time, you’re going to need to do that part yourself. He does give you a general area to search though, the forests in Apollonia, which is a good a place to start as any. Finally, as proof of Casper’s demise, Gules will ask that you bring back his ring, so don’t forget to loot him when he’s dead.

(1 of 2) Return to Gules in Semine to pick up the Casper Task.

Break up Casper’s Band

As mentioned above, the search area for Casper’s band is to the north of Apollonia, and the easiest way to get there is by heading to the fast travel of the same name and riding north until you reach it. If you open your map once you get there, enter the search area from the south of the marked out area and head toward the center, you’ll find the camp situated there.

There are a few ways you can go about dealing with this large bandit group, but above all else, make sure you’re fully dressed for battle, you’ll need every bit of protection you can muster. If your Stealth skill is up to par, you can wait until night fall and slowly work your way around the camp, taking care of each enemy one stealth kill at a time. This is risky though, and if you’re caught, you’ll most likely have less protection equipped (for the noise reduction) for the ensuring battle.

If you have a full set of armor by now (and you should, especially if you’ve been working on this questline), then take the fight to them. Still, begin by heading to the smaller camp higher on the rocks and dealing with that archer first. With the high ground in your favor, you can goad the other enemies to your location and take them out one-by-one without getting yourself surrounded. Make use of Mutt to attack your enemies and try to break line-of-sight with any of the other archers.

(1 of 5) Approach from the south, dealing with this archer first.

Casper, of course, is the largest threat here, and he wields a powerful Longsword to boot. If you can, try to deal with any other bandits first so that you’re left with just him, and then focus on parrying his attacks before countering with a combo of your own, don’t take unnecessary risks as a combo from him can often be fatal. If you’ve unlocked the Battle Cry Perk from the Speech tree, be sure to use it for the extra damage boost.

Once Casper finally falls, loot Casper’s Ring, rummage through the chests in the surrounding camp, and then make your triumphant return to Gules for the final time. Request to keep the ring again, it’s useful, and Gules will hand you 95 Groschen as a reward for dealing with all of the bandits. Perhaps the greatest reward out of the bunch, though, is the fact that Gules will become a Skill Trainer, offering Apprentice (500 Groschens) level training for Swordsmanship, Thievery, and Stealth, along with Unarmed (100 Groschens) Basics!
