There are many stats and skills in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II that you can increase your level in, all of which provides Perks for Henry that expands what he can do while exploring medieval Bohemia. Your Main Level, then, increases by gaining levels in the other main stats, and it’s well worth working on it as there are some truly useful Perks to be had. Keep reading to learn how to level the Main Level stat and which perks to select.

Main Level Uses and Effects

Your Main Level is a bit of an odd one when it comes to Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, as there are a number of ways it will gain XP. For the most part, your Main Level is a reflection of where you’re at in the game, and the sum of the levels of your main stats (Strength, Agility, Vitality, and Speech). While this makes it a harder “stat” to gain levels in, it is handy to know that it does have its own set of Perks, just like any other stat or skill in the game.

Fortunately, outside of that, your Main Level doesn’t impact much more than that, equipment doesn’t have a level requirement and it won’t have any direct impact on your general statistics (such as Agility decreasing the Stamina cost of melee strikes). Your Main Level is essentially what it says, it’s an indicator of Henry’s growth and where you’re currently at with the game.

Your Main Level, much like any other stat and skill in the game, has a maximum of 30 levels you can earn and obtaining all 30 of those levels will see that you’re able to purchase every Perk. Unfortunately, that’s a massive undertaking that will require you to max out the majority of your other stats!

Your Main Level will gain XP from increasing your Strength, Agility, Vitality, and Speech stats, along with completing Quests.

Leveling Main Level

Unfortunately, if you’re looking to boost your Main Level by grinding, you’re going to be out of luck, as it’s arguably the hardest and slowest stat to level. There are two main methods for increasing your Main Level, and they are by increasing the levels of your other stats (Strength, Agility, Vitality, and Speech) or by completing quests and progressing the main story, they will always give you some XP toward increasing it.

With that said, if you spend time grinding the other stats, naturally Main Level will gain a level or two from it, but for the most part, you’ll always be at the mercy of where you’re currently in the main story, no matter how much time you grind those other stats.

While Skill Trainers aren’t as helpful as they are for leveling other skills, you can still use them to level skills that in turn, will impact the stats (and thus, gain Main Level XP), a good example of this is Scholarship, which has a direct impact on Speech and Stealth which has a direct impact on Agility. Additionally, you can find Skill Books for the main stats, and studying those will help to gain XP toward your Main Level (there are, unfortunately, no Skill Books that give direct Main Level XP).

Best Main Level Perks

Every time your Main Level skill reaches a new even level (so 6, 8, 10, etc.), you’ll get a Perk Point to spend, with each of these thresholds offering new Perks available to learn. While it is entirely possible to grab the vast majority of the Perks on offer here (some are mutually exclusive), that involves a massive amount of investment and as such, you’ll want to prioritize specific Perks. With that said, these are the Perks you should be looking to unlock as soon as possible:

Well-Built

Being an RPG, having to deal with weight limits are always a pain, nobody likes having to manage it, but it’s the price we pay for an immersive experience. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is no different there, and your weight is taken up very quickly if you’re wearing a full suit of heavy armor, a shield, a ranged weapon, and perhaps a secondary weapon too. Fortunately, the Well-Built Perk will scale with your Strength stat and increase the capacity gains per level from 10 points to 12 points, this will massively add up by the time your Strength reaches 20+.

Charming Man

Reputation is an important part of the experience in medieval Bohemia, and you’ll find that nearly every settlement and group of people have their own reputation for you to increase. How high your reputation is will impact how easy it is to convince people in skill checks, the prices you can haggle for at merchants, and how you’re viewed in general by the populace, it opens many doors. The Charming Man Perk, then, will see that all of your reputation gains are increased by 10%.

(1 of 2) Martin’s Heritage will increase the XP gain when using swords, among other bonuses.

Martin’s Heritage or Radzig’s Heritage

These Perks are mutually exclusive, so you can only choose one of them on any given playthrough, but look to grab your associated Perk as soon as the opportunity arises. Martin’s Heritage will increase XP gain for the Swords, Crafting, and Survival skills, while Radzig’s Heritage will increase XP gain for Heavy Weapons, Marksmanship, and Scholarship skills. Pick the one that has the skills you use more, and enjoy the benefits they grant.

Night Crawler

If you ever need to undertake any criminal activities, or perhaps infiltrate a bandit camp, the cover of night is usually the best time to do it. With the Night Crawler Perk, you’ll gain a +2 bonus to Stealth, Agility, and Vitality, along with a +3 bonus to Stealth, making this a lot easier to stealth around during the dead of night!

Local Hero

This is a Perk that is boosted by making sure you have Charming Man first, but should your reputation in a given area be at least 60 (you can see this in the menu screen), you’ll enjoy a +2 bonus to Strength, Agility, Vitality, and Speech, making it easier to get any tasks done while in town. This combined with Night Crawler means that you’ll almost permanently enjoy these added bonuses in settlements, regardless of the time of the day (and will double at night).

List of Main Level Perks

The table below will list all of the Perks you can find in the Main Level tree, along with what level and other requirements they may have:

Good Natured It’s easier for you to convince others the “nice way”. You gain +2 to Persuasion, Impression and Presence. People are also more likely to try to solve crimes with you in person rather than going straight for the guard. But beware, the more dangerous you look, the more likely they still choose to go for the guard instead. 12 - Exclusive with Criminal Element
Night Crawler At night, you have a +2 bonus to Strength, Agility and Vitality and a +3 bonus to Stealth. 12
Blood of Siegfried In combat, you’re far more resilient than a mere mortal. Your armour will be 10 points higher at all times. 14
Pacifist As long as you don’t kill anyone, your non-combat skills will be increased by 2 and your Speech by 3. If you kill someone, you lose the bonus but can regain it if you don’t kill anyone for 12 game hours. 14 - Exclusive with Warmonger
Warmonger After the end of the fight, you gain a +2 bonus to Strength, Agility and Combat skills. The effect lasts for 6 game hours. To renew it, you must enter combat again. 14 - Exclusive with Pacifist
Heroic Vigour Each level of Vitality adds 1 extra Stamina point. The effect also applies retroactively. 16
Well-Built As your Strength increase, your carrying capacity increases faster. For each level of strength, you gain 12 points of carrying capacity instead of the usual 10. 16

There you have it; you now know how to level the Main Level skill in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 along with knowledge on what the best Perks are to learn as soon as possible. With this, you can now have an easier time making a decision on what exclusive Perks to go for.
