There wasn’t a whole lot to get up to in medieval Bohemia, especially in smaller towns and villages, so visiting the local tavern for a spot of boozing was a popular past time. Fortunately, in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, getting completely sloshed will reward you in leveling up your Drinking skill, with plenty of Perks to make use of. Keep reading to learn how to level the Drinking skill and which perks to unlock first.

Drinking Uses and Effects¶
The Drinking skill is a bit of an odd one, it’s entirely possible to never really engage with it too much, outside of the odd quest here and there (such as Invaders in the Trosky region), so it’s difficult to know just how useful leveling this skill is. If you are a fervent drinker, however, you’ll often find you get drunk relatively quickly, this will distort your vision, cause you to wake up with a hangover that gives you stat penalties, and there is the possibility of becoming addicted.
As you increase your Drinking skill, it will take a lot more to get you drunk, allowing you to make excellent use of some of the Perks that can be found in this tree. It will also mean that any hangovers that are suffered as a result of heavy drinking will pass much quicker, and of course, there’s less chance of you becoming addicted, which can be truly damaging to poor Henry.
When drunk, there are two phases, the “positive” phase that essentially impacts all of the bonuses you get from the various Perks in this tree. But following this, comes the “negative” phase, which often imposes penalties. Fortunately, if you enjoy spending time in the taverns, there are Perks that extends the positive phase of being drunk.
Leveling Drinking¶
When it comes to gaining XP in the Drinking Skill, you’ll find it’s arguably the most straightforward one in the game. As you may expect, simply having a drink of any kind of alcohol will grant you XP in this skill, so you can really powerlevel this skill as much as you want, provided you have the Groschens to pay for your drinks (or steal them). It is important to note that a lot of potions you can craft, purchase, or loot, often contain alcohol in them, be it spirits or wine. Should you drink any of these, it will count toward the drunken gauge and grant you Drinking XP in the process.
What this does mean, however, is that it’s a skill that’s not going to really level up through normal play, you’re going to need to go out of your way to level up this skill. As such, if you’re not focused on it, odds are it will be your lowest level skill, fortunately, as stated above, it’s not difficult to get XP in it.
The final method for leveling your Drinking skill, like with every other skill in the game, is by making use of Skill Trainers and Skill Books. There’s not much to know about Skill Trainers beyond discovering their location and paying the requisite coin per rank you want to learn. You can find out how much each one costs below:
Skill Trainer Rank | Groschens |
---|---|
Basics | 100 |
Apprentice | 500 |
Journeyman | 1500 |
? | 5000 |
A lot of Skill Trainers can be found by discovering new areas, while some will become a Skill Trainer after completing a quest for them. One such Trainer is Huntsman Vostatek, the Gamekeeper to the east of Vidlak Pond, after completing the Lackey quest. Alternatively, the Scribe in Troskowitz will offer opportunities to sell Skill Books, with which you can read to learn specific skills.
Best Drinking Perks¶
Every time your Drinking skill reaches a new even level (so 6, 8, 10, etc.), you’ll get a Perk Point to spend, with each of these thresholds offering new Perks available to learn. While it is entirely possible to grab every Perk, that involves a massive amount of investment and as such, you’ll want to prioritize specific Perks. With that said, these are the Perks you should be looking to unlock as soon as possible:
Nightcap¶
The earliest Perk you can learn is one of the most useful, as when you’re drunk, odds are you’re going to get a hangover in the morning, and all of the penalties that brings with it. With the Nightcap Perk, however, if you were to get a hangover, you won’t, and as an additional bonus, beds will be 10% more comfortable.
Lucky Day¶
If you’re an avid Dice player, then you’ll want to make a beeline for the Lucky Day Perk. With this, whenever you’re drunk and playing Dice, you have a higher chance of not using up a badge when you play it. The more drunk you are, the greater the chance and considering how powerful some badges can be, this will make winning Dice a lot easier.
Indomitable Drunk¶
As mentioned above in how being drunk works, the Indomitable Drunk Perk will make it so that when you’re in the negative phase of being drunk, the penalties won’t be as harsh. If drinking is a favored activity of yours, make sure you grab this Perk as soon as it becomes available.
Experienced Reveller¶
This is almost like a sister Perk to the one above, Indomitable Drunk, as when you’re in the positive phase of being drunk, the effects will kicking in a lot sooner, meaning you’ll enjoy greater uptime on those Perks that kick in when being drunk, hard to say no to that!
List of Drinking Perks¶
The table below will list all of the Perks you can find in the Drinking tree, along with what level and other requirements they may have:
Perk | Effect | Requirement |
---|---|---|
Nightcap | If you were meant to get a hangover while sleeping, now you won’t. Plus, when you’re drunk, all the beds are 10% more comfortable, so you sleep like a king. | Lv 6 |
Saint Vivian’s Grace | Under the influence of alcohol, you’ll be less likely to be injured by falling from a height because the patron saint of drinkers has a protective hand over you. | Lv 6 |
Beerfoot | Amazingly, when you’re drunk, you make 20% less noise when moving indoors. | Lv 8 |
Lucky Day | The more drunk you are, the higher chance you have of not wasting your badge when you use it. | Lv 8 |
Beer Belly | Beer sates you twice as much, so if you’re not afraid of drunkenness, you can more easily replace food with it. However, potions sate you half as much, so you can drink more of them. | Lv 10 |
Drunk’s Luck | When you’re in the positive phase of drunkenness, you got a bonus of up to +4 to Thievery. | Lv 10 |
Heavy Duty | When you’re in the positivite phase of drunkenness, you gain a +4 bonus to your Craftsmanship skill. | Lv 10 |
Cheers! | Drinking wine or beer will heal you for 5 health points and spirits can cure poisoning. Bottoms up! | Lv 12 |
Indomitable Drunk | The negative effects of drunkenness will be milder for you. | Lv 12 |
Drunken Fool | If you commit a minor crime while drunk, you can try to excuse yourself by claiming your impaired state. | Lv 14 |
Tavern Brawler | When you’re in the positive phase of drunkenness, you’ll get a bonus of up to +4 to your Unarmed combat skill. | Lv 14 |
Enhanced Mixture | When you’re drunk, using any potion will heal you in addition to its own effect. The healing effect will be stronger the drunker you are (in the positive phase of drunkenness), but will never exceed 20 Health. | Lv 16 |
Experienced Reveller | When you’re drunk, life is just somehow nicer. The bonuses of the positive phase of drunkenness come into full effect earlier. | Lv 16 |
There you have it; you now know how to level the Drinking skill in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II along with knowledge on what the best Perks are to learn as soon as possible. With this, you can now drink to your hearts content and enjoy some great Perks in the process.
