Finding Bonnie at The Lair

Forbidden Fruit can be accepted as soon as Materia Prima has been completed. Speak to the Miller and ask him if he has any more work for you, and he’ll tell you that he needs saltpeter, a lot of it. Furthermore, he’ll mention his colleague, Bonnie, who can be found at “The Lair”. You’ll get directions which we’ll repeat here, so it’s easier to remember. “There’s a bridge over the mill stream towards the southwest.

Take the path to the left just behind it along the pond. From that path, you turn right uphill between the rocks, and you’ll find yourself at The Lair“. Finally, he’ll tell you that Bonnie would be happy if you would pick her up some herbs along the way. If you have some on you, that will be enough, otherwise, pick some up along the way.

Follow Kreyzl’s instructions by going over the bridge to the southwest, following the path until you reach an intersection. From there, head southeast and stay on the path to reach The Lair, which is just a regular house to the left of the path. You’ll find Bonnie to the right of the house. Speak to her and tell her you’re looking for a saltpeter pit, and after some introductions, she’ll ask if you have anything from the mill. Hand over a herb, any will do, and she’ll want to get to know you. If you select “Let’s Talk”, you’ll get a reputation increase with her; selecting the latter will do the opposite.

(1 of 3) The Lair can be found southeast of the Mill.

When talking to Bonnie, she’ll ask you a few questions, answering “A family of blacksmiths”, and “He seems mystical” will grant you further reputation boosts. Bonnie will ask you if you know how a saltpeter forms, and you’ll be given a check, passing the check will give you another reputation boost, but you won’t lose any for telling her you don’t know, but you will lose some if you fail the check.

The final question you’ll get is what type of person digs holes and throws dead bodies into them, both of the options are correct, as conveniently, the lock gravedigger just happens to be a knacker too, who can be found just past Troskowitz, near the Apollonia rocks. Before you leave, you can ask Bonnie to teach you the Apprentice levels of Thievery and Stealth, and the Basics of Alchemy, for a fee.

Obtaining Saltpeter

Fast travel to Troskowitz, head to the butchers on the east side of the village, and pick up some fresh meat, a piece of Beef will do. Follow the eastern path out of town, and you’ll soon arrive at the cemetery, where you’ll find Gravedigger Ignatius tending to some graves. Speak to him and tell him that you need to find a saltpeter pit.

If you ask him about his profession, you’ll get a reputation boost. He’ll agree to take you to the pit he throws the bodies in, but you’ll need to help him with his collections along the way. You can offer to give him the beef instead, and he’ll happily take it, but you’re still going to have to help him. Congratulations, you’re a knacker for the day.

(1 of 3) Pick up some meat at the Butcher’s in Troskowitz.

When you’re ready, accept his request, and sleep/wait until 5 in the morning. Head over to Ignatius who can be found outside his cabin to the right of the graves, and select “Let’s get going”. Follow him to the wagon and hop on by interacting with the right side of the wagon seat, behind Snorter.

Throughout your journey, Ignatius will ask you questions, try to stay on his good side if you want a lift back on the wagon when the work is finished. You’ll stop at three places, each with its own objective, although it’s just getting a carcass of sorts, and depending on how you handle the situations that arise, they will determine how much Ignatius likes you by the end of the day.

First Job - Deer in the Cottage Ruins

Your first stop is the Cottage Ruins, which has a rotting deer carcass. When the wagon stops, get off, and head east through the bushes. As you enter the area, you’ll find a wolf that will attack you when you get close. Pull out your weapon, have Mutt attack it, and take it out with a couple of attacks; If it runs, ignore it. Go inside the ruins, and you’ll find a (very hard) locked door. That is where the carcass lies, but don’t worry, you can get in another way. Exit the ruins, head to the back, and jump over the fence, using the barrels nearby.

(1 of 2) Go behind the ruins and use the barrels to jump over the fence.

Go behind the ruins and use the barrels to jump over the fence. (left), Follow the ruins, jump through the window, unlock the door, and take the carcass back to the wagon. (right)

Go down the side of the hut, jump through the window at the end, and unlock the locked door. Bag the carcass and throw it on the back of the wagon. When you get back to the wagon, you’ll find Ignatius with some shady-looking men. Head over and talk to the man with the red hat, and they’re looking for thieves around the area. You’ll tell them that you’re just knackers, and they’ll ask you to prove it, which leads to a speech check.

You’ll have three options here, Persuasion, Impression, or attack. Attacking them will cause Ignatius will lower your standing with him, so try to end it amicably. Select whatever your highest stat is and pray it’s enough to convince them, otherwise, get ready for a bloody battle.

(1 of 2) Speak to the shady-looking men, who will accuse both of you being thieves.

Speak to the shady-looking men, who will accuse both of you being thieves. (left), Try to talk yourself out of the accusation, otherwise you’ll have a battle on your hands. (right)

Second Job - Pigs on the Farm

Before you get back on the wagon, speak to Ignatius, and he’ll tell you that the lady at the farm that you’re heading to had her pigs die yesterday. She thinks it’s a curse, but Ignatius thinks it’s something else and asks you to take a look around when you get there to find out what caused it.

When you reach the farm, hop off the wagon and wait for Ignatius to speak to the Housemaid to get a better idea of what happened. Ignatius deduces it must’ve been poisoning, although the Housewife thinks it could be Veisar’s dog that did it, but there are no bite marks.

(1 of 3) Listen to the conversation between Ignatius and the Housemaid to get a better idea of the problem.

Once the conversation is over, head to the barn at the end of the western path. Here, you’ll find two pig carcasses. Bag and take each one to the wagon, and then head back to the farm to find the source of the poisoning. Go back to the barn and take the path north of it until you reach the stream.

After reaching the stream, follow it northeast past the logs until you reach a larger pool of water, where, you’ll find two rotting carcasses. You don’t need to pick these up just now, as Ignatius will help you by skipping time, so go back to Ignatius and tell him what you found. Speak to him again after the short time skip to move on.

Third Job - The Greengrocer’s Dog

This last job is different. Instead of collecting a carcass, you’re creating one. The dog that the Housemaid at the farm mentioned has been causing too many problems around the area, and it’s your job to put it down. When you’re told this, you can reply with “I’m not going to kill a dog”, but Ignatius won’t like that, and you’ll lose some reputation.

As you approach the location, Ignatius explains how you’re going to go about it. He’ll give you an Aesop Potion to drink, some poison, and some meat. Drinking the potion will make animals take less notice of you, while the poison and meat are for the dog, which you’ll need to throw at it.

(1 of 4) Check out the shed where the dog is meant to be to find out it’s gone.

Firstly, you’ll need to locate the dog, so head northeast to find an open shed, which is where the dog should be. Look around the nearby cornfield and you should hear some barking. Hop over the fence, and you’ll see a tree in the background that you can ‘lock’ onto. Head over to the tree, and you’ll find Bonnie along with the dog.

Speak to Bonnie, and you’ll have a difficult choice to make. Kill or don’t kill the dog. If you choose not to kill it, Bonnie will happily take the dog back to The Lair, however, Ignatius won’t be happy at all, and you’ll lose a fair bit of reputation, meaning you’re most likely walking home after the job, although, you can fast travel, so it doesn’t matter too much. If you do kill the dog, Bonnie won’t be happy with you, but Ignatius will. The choice is yours.

The Saltpeter Pit

When you’re done with the dog, head back to Ignatius, tell him what happened, and hop back onto the wagon. Eventually, you’ll end up at the saltpeter pit, just as Ignatius promised, and you’ll get a short scene. He’ll give you a reward based on how he feels about you, and then he’ll sit down and watch you taste the saltpeter, yum. Go over to the hole and taste the cadaver to confirm its saltpeter, and then speak to Ignatius to get a lift back on the wagon. If he likes you, he will, otherwise, you’ll need to fast travel.

Time to test the goods! Poor Henry.

Either way, travel back to the Lower Semine Mill and speak to Miller Kreyzl. Tell him you found the saltpeter pit, which will complete the quest. Your reward will be 85 Groshen, a stealth skill book, and some experience points in Vitality and Stealth. This still won’t get you the wedding invitation, but it will open up Miller’s path to the main quest to get it.
