Being an eloquent speaker went a long way in medieval Bohemia, and this is no different for Henry. The main reason for investing in the Speech skill (and a very good one at that), is to assist in all manners of conversations you will have. Having a high Speech skill will allow you to talk yourself out of difficult situations and even outright skip some objectives. Keep reading to learn how to level the Speech skill and which Speech perks to select in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2!

The art of Speech will allow you to succeed in all manner of skill checks.

Speech Uses and Effects

Speech is all about how you interact with the people found in medieval Bohemia, and using it to your advantage. As mentioned above, Speech will aid you in every single conversation that you have, and there are Speech specific skill checks too, just bear in mind that your skill in Speech is only one thing taken into consideration, you’ll also need to look at the difficulty of a skill check along with your reputation with the person or area in question.

On top of this, having a higher Speech skill means you’ll be able to Haggle for better rewards when bartering with the various merchants you come to. As an example, you can easily get over 30 "Groschen" iconGroschens off the Skill Books that the "Scribe" iconScribe sells in "Troskowitz" iconTroskowitz if you invest in the Speech skill. The best use for it, however, is to outright skip certain objectives by talking your way out of them, or by creating new opportunities for you to exploit.

When it comes to the Perks, there are some very useful ones in there, such as using your voice to strike fear in your opponents, getting more money for your wares when you sell them, and even discounts, there’s a lot to like here.

Reading books will also increase your Speech XP.

Leveling Speech

Speech is arguably one of the easier skills to actually level in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 as it will gain XP by, well, simply speaking to people. There are ways to gain more XP though, and putting that to use will cause you to level this skill quicker.

To begin with, look to always Haggle whenever you buy anything from a merchant, even if you’re savings are very little. Succeeding at Haggling will give you increased XP and if you find yourself making a lot of purchases, it soon adds up. Likewise, when it comes to skill checks, using and succeeding at any Speech (with the mouth icon) checks will see a greater increase in XP. Finally, you will gain Speech XP whenever you read a book, this means purchasing (or finding) Skill Books and studying them will not only work toward Scholarship, but also Speech.

The final method for leveling your Speech skill, like with every other skill in the game, is by making use of Skill Trainers. There’s not much to know about Skill Trainers beyond discovering their location and paying the requisite coin per rank you want to learn. You can find out how much each one costs below:

Skill Trainer Rank "Groschen" iconGroschens
Basics 100
Apprentice 500
Journeyman 1500
? 5000

A lot of Skill Trainers can be found by discovering new areas, some will become a Skill Trainer after completing a quest for them. Alternatively, the Scribes in Troskowitz and "Trosky Castle" iconTrosky Castle will offer opportunities to train you in Scholarship (which helps boost Speech), with Trosky Castle’s Scribe offering it at Apprentice level for a larger XP boost.

Best Speech Perks

Every time your Speech skill reaches a new even level (so 6, 8, 10, etc.), you’ll get a Perk Point to spend, with each of these thresholds offering new Perks available to learn. While it is entirely possible to grab every Perk, that involves a massive amount of investment and as such, you’ll want to prioritize specific Perks. With that said, these are the Perks you should be looking to unlock as soon as possible:

Hustler and Partner in Crime

Perhaps the real standouts of the Speech tree that will require you to reach Level 20 in the skill, "Hustler" iconHustler will allow you to sell stolen goods and even give you some Thievery and Stealth XP for your troubles. Regardless to say, if you find yourself engaging in that side of the game a lot, this is an incredibly useful Perk to have.

What’s more, once you hit Level 20 in Speech and unlock the "Partner in Crime" iconPartner in Crime Perk (which requires Hustler), you will no longer have any fear of detection when selling stolen goods. This completely eliminates the need to visit a fence (such as the one at the Nomad’s "Camp" iconCamp) ever again, making life much much easier.

Jack of All Trades

With the "Jack of All Trades" iconJack of All Trades Perk, you will gain +2 to any skill check that you undertake, along with doubling the XP you get for succeeding at them. Not only will this make those skill checks slightly easier, but it will help to level your other skills quicker, making this even more lucrative.

(1 of 2) Performing a Battle Cry with the Perk acquired will increase your damage.

Adept of the Mystic Arts

If you’ve been spending a lot of time practicing "Alchemy" iconAlchemy, which is very useful at the start of the adventure, then getting this Perk will reduce costs across the board for Potions, Herbs, Recipes, Books, and any other Alchemy-related goods. This will save you a lot of Groschens long term, that you can then put to better use.

Battle Cry and Dreaded Warrior

These two Perks, unlike the other ones in the Speech tree, are for use in battle, and they have a great effect! The Battle Cry Perks will increase your damage in battle, while the "Dreaded Warrior" iconDreaded Warrior Perks will strike fear into your opponents, causing them to drop their guard or even flee at times. Get both of these as soon as possible to make combat more manageable, just remember you need to use the Battle Cry in combat by holding down the [Left ALT] button and choosing the option.

List of Speech Perks

The table below will list all of the Perks you can find in the Speech tree, along with what level and other requirements they may have:
