Starting The Jaunt Side Quest

Once you’ve completed the prerequisite quest The Blacksmith’s Son, head back over to Radovan to begin The Jaunt which involves you tracking down two hands of his as they’ve gone missing with a bunch of valuable goods. Make your way over to Semines Estate and defeat Jurko in a fight which can easily be done by waiting for an opportunity to parry his attacks before striking back.

Meet Gnarly and Lord Semine in the Courtyard

Someone will put a stop to a fight and a cutscene play out and then during your conversation with Captain Gnarly you’ll want to select the dialogue choice “I thought you’d let me mount up” to be pointed in the direction of a horse you can purchase. Head down to the courtyard and ignore the captain for now and instead go outside the castle gates and wait for Henry to point out Pebbles before speaking with the Horse Trader (Groom Ballatay).

Acquiring Your First Horse

(1 of 2) look for Pebbles outside Semines Estate

look for Pebbles outside Semines Estate (left), and then choose the first option to negotiating buying her back. (right)

It’s a good idea to create a save before you approach Ballatay as you’ll be able to acquire Pebbles for free, but you’ll have to pass a speech check. When speaking with Ballatay you’ll want to select the following dialogue options: Pebbles, I rode in on her for Rattay, Who sold her to you?! and Be Reasonable!.

Duel Lord Semine

Once Pebbles is back where they belong, speak with Captain Gnarly and choose the “Let’s Get Going” option and then follow them until you’re offered a duel by Semine which we recommend accepting, as you’ll get rewarded with a fairly decent weapon for this stage of the game. He’ll ask you which weapon you’ll like to use for the duel so you’ll want to select what you’re most comfortable with.

(1 of 2) Defeat Lord Semine in a duel to acquire some useful pieces of equip.

Defeat Lord Semine in a duel to acquire some useful pieces of equip. (left), Ask the Bailiff about the missing cart. (right)

It’s a simple battle as long as you play it safe by waiting for him to attack and countering. If you win the battle you’ll obtain Gnarly’s Mace and Shield, but if you lose you’ll only obtain the Mace. Return to the horse and continue onwards to Troskowitz and then make your way over to the bailiff (who can be found near the scribe) and ask him “has anyone seen the cart” and you’ll discover that they were racing through the village.

Investigate the Area of the Crossroads by the Cemetery

Return to Gnarly and Lord Semine and hop on your horse and head towards Apollonia until you reach a fork in the path, then you’ll want to take the left path and follow it along until you find a sack of charcoal. Return to Semine and let him know what you’ve seen before continuing to follow him again until the tracks start to disappear. Head northwest into the woods and you’ll come across the abandoned cart hidden behind a bush.

(1 of 2) Look for the Sack of Charcoal in the path to figure out what direction to travel

Look for the Sack of Charcoal in the path to figure out what direction to travel (left), then head into the woods to find the cart. (right)

Interact with it and wait for Gnarly and Lord Semine to take a look, then follow them until you come across a suspicious camp. You’ll now want to scout it out before you approach it, so head up the hill to the west and approach the edge of the cliff and investigate the situation by pressing L1/LB/Left Alt. Return to Lord Semine and help them take out the enemies and the easiest to do this is to attack the same person that Gnarly or Lord Semine are fighting.

Catch The Hired Hand

Once the cutscene has come to a close, take out another group of bandits and then you’ll need to track down the hired hand that has disappeared. Head up the hill to the east until you reach a camp, then go north to find the hand hiding amongst some trees. We recommend keeping him alive, as he’ll offer you some additional side quests, such as the Canker so you’ll want to select the following dialogue choice - “You’re no match for me!”. Finally, return to the Blacksmith Radovan and bring him up to speed on the situation and then the quest will come to a close and The Hermit will become available.
