Heavy Weapons Uses and Effects¶
While Swords are the most common weapon-type in the game, they won’t always serve you well in every situation, as enemies clad in full armor become a more frequent matter as you reach the later stages of the Kuttenberg region. That means sword are going to do very little against them, so you’ll be expecting long, arduous battles, that can sometimes feel impossible to win.
With one of the Heavy Weapons, however, full armor won’t do them much good, as they’re designed to be effective against them. Clubs, Maces, Axes, and War
Hammers make up the Heavy Weapons category, and while you’ll find them hard to come across in the
Trosky region, you’ll be able to get your hands on some strong ones once you reach
Kuttenberg.
Most of the Perks in the Heavy Weapons tree do focus on making yourself more powerful with them, as you may expect, but there is one Perk in there that is universal, making certain speech checks easier to succeed when you have the Perk active.
Leveling Heavy Weapons¶
As with most weapon-based skills in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, you’ll gain XP for Heavy Weapons by using them in battle. This is harder to do in the Trosky region than say, Swords or Unarmed, as weapons for this category aren’t as common. There are the odd mace you can get your hand on, so when you find one, hold on to it and take time to fight some enemies with it whenever given the opportunity.
If you’re still looking for Heavy Weapons in the Trosky region, pay the Blacksmith Radovan a visit in Tachov, north of Troskowitz.
If you’re look for an enemy encounters, consider using Fast Travel long distances, there’s a good chance of being stopped by a bandit attack, making it the perfect time to crack out a Mace or Axe and start wailing on them to get some Heavy Weapons XP. Likewise, whenever the story calls for a largescale battle, these also mark a good time to focus on your Heavy Weapons, especially as enemies will often be wearing armor anyway.
The final method for leveling your Heavy Weapons skill, like with every other skill in the game, is by making use of Skill Trainers and Skill Books. There’s not much to know about Skill Trainers beyond discovering their location and paying the requisite coin per rank you want to learn. You can find out how much each one costs below:
Skill Trainer Rank | ![]() |
---|---|
Basics | 100 |
Apprentice | 500 |
Journeyman | 1500 |
? | 5000 |
A lot of Skill Trainers can be found by discovering new areas, while some will become a Skill Trainer after completing a quest for them. Alternatively, the Scribe in
Troskowitz will offer opportunities to sell Skill Books, with which you can read to learn specific skills.
Best Heavy Weapons Perks¶
Every time your Heavy Weapons skill reaches a new even level (so 6, 8, 10, etc.), you’ll get a Perk Point to spend, with each of these thresholds offering new Perks available to learn. While it is entirely possible to grab every Perk, that involves a massive amount of investment and as such, you’ll want to prioritize specific Perks. With that said, these are the Perks you should be looking to unlock as soon as possible:
Hack and Slash¶
A similar themed Perk found in most of the weapon-based skills, Hack and Slash is the Heavy Weapons version of it. Once learned, any attacks that are uninterrupted in a sequence will deal more and more damage. Combined with the other Perks you’ll naturally get in this tree, this will become a lot easier to perform increasing your damage for very little effort.
Menacing Presence¶
Odds are, if you’re making use of Heavy Weapons, you’ll probably be wearing a full set of armor, causing this Perk to trigger. Once learned, you’ll find it easier to succeed at Might and Dread skillchecks and enemies are more likely to flee or become demoralized in your presence.
Look to string attacks uninterrupted once you have the Perks to deal major damage!
Shieldbreaker¶
Shields start becoming more of an issue as your progress through the game, especially in the Kuttenberg region, and as such, any Perk, such as Shieldbreaker, that makes it easier to deal with those are worth their weight in gold.
Green Knight¶
A rather simple Perk in nature, but incredibly effective if you get used to performing combos. Once learned, any time you successful use a combo against your enemies, your attacks will deal an increased 20% damage for the next five seconds. This Perk also works perfectly alongside Hack and Slash, often seeing the two of them proc together.
