There are numerous minigames in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: picking pockets, opening locks, brewing potions, forging… all have minigames. Not all minigames are larcenous or thrifty, however - the good old vice of gambling has its own dice minigame as well. The computer is a thieving bastard, but you’ll need to win a game of dice poker here and there to get the best quest outcomes, so learning the rules and some tips to gain an edge will come in handy.

Dice Rules¶
If you played The Witcher or The Witcher 2, you may be familiar with dice poker. The dice minigame in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 isn’t quite dice poker, but it share some similarities in that you and your opponent will take turns rolling dice and scoring based on what rolls. Instead of forming hands that compete against each other, however, in this dice minigame you will pick scoring dice to accumulate points, with the goal being to accumulate a specified number of points before your opponent can.
Every round a player will roll six dice and they can select any number of scoring dice from the dice they rolled. They must choose at least one scoring dice each roll, and if they roll no scoring dice they go bust, scoring no points and ending their turn. A list of scoring dice combos can be found below:
Scoring Dice Combos¶
Dice Combo | Score |
---|---|
1 | 100 |
5 | 50 |
1-2-3-4-5 | 500 |
2-3-4-5-6 | 750 |
1-2-3-4-5-6 | 1500 |
1-1-1 | 1000 |
2-2-2 | 200 |
3-3-3 | 300 |
4-4-4 | 400 |
5-5-5 | 500 |
6-6-6 | 600 |
Once a dice scores it is removed from play for the rest of the round unless all six dice end up scoring in the same round (the number of rolls required to achieve this doesn’t matter). Remember, you’re not building hands here, you’re scoring with dice combos. So if you roll two 1’s you can’t “hold” them to see if you’ll roll another 1 with the remaining dice to get a 1-1-1 combo. You can, however, pick one or both 1’s to score on their own, getting you 100 points for each one that scores.
When selecting scoring dice you can decide to end your turn - guaranteeing you get any points your dice have scored that round, or you can reroll all dice that haven’t scored. In the example with two 1’s above, you could score both (200 points) and reroll the remaining four dice. If you get a 5 from those dice, you could could it (50 points) and quit, or score it and reroll the remaining three dice, hoping you get another scoring combo. If not, you go bust and get zero points that round. Obviously the more scoring dice you select, the lower odds the next reroll will have any, so you’ll need to balance between going bust by playing aggressively, and scoring too few points by taking low-scoring combos.
In the example above (two 1’s score, then a 5 scores), if you rerolled the remaining three dice and got 3-3-3 you’d score 300 points (in addition to the 250 points from the previous rolls) and since all six dice scored you’d get the option to continue, rerolling all six dice. This plays out the same way as before - you roll, you select scoring dice, and if you get greedy or have bad luck, you go bust. Any extra points you score are added to the total for this round, but if you go bust you’d lose everything, including the 550 points from the previous round. Once you voluntarily end the round, points are added to the board and cannot be lost.
Loaded Dice¶
We’re going to be real here - the computer cheats. You will probably never see a 1-2-3-4-5-6 straight save for when the computer miraculously rolls it. They will magically seem to rack up the points needed to win a match in one fell swoop after giving you a glimmer of hope. Aside from using Saviour Schnapps to save your game, there’s not much you can do… except cheat back.
Over the course of Henry’s travels he will come across new dice, some of which are loaded, some of which are merely quirky. Dice can be loaded and custom dice will nudge the odds in your favor. Saint Antiochus’ die will regularly roll 3’s, for example, and if you get several of them you can greatly increase your odds of getting 3-3-3 combos or higher. Use loaded specialized dice you find to improve your chances of winning - you’ll need it. Just be wary, as not all dice you will will be beneficial - you should check the item description to learn exactly what each dice does.
Finding New Dice¶
You can get new dice from various sources: some NPCs will own them and you can negotiate said ownership via violence (dice can be dropped by bandits and hostile quest NPCs) or by picking their pockets. Shooting down bird nests and even picking herbs with the “Lucky Find” perk can also sometimes yield dice. Finally, and perhaps least interesting, you can sometimes find dice in chests and other containers or purchase them from NPCs (usually innkeepers).
