The art of combat took many forms in medieval Bohemia, and although knowing how to use specific weaponry is important, strategy and tactics in general are just as important. Fortunately, Henry’s experiences in the first game has led him a long way on the path to becoming an expert on the battlefield in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Keep reading to learn how to level the Warefare skill and which perks to unlock first.

Warfare Uses and Effects¶
The Warfare skill shares a lot in common with the Main Level skill, in that by using weapons in combat and leveling up all of the various combat skills, you’ll become more proficient in general. Your Warfare skill is one of the most important when it comes to combat as it has a large impact on how combat unfolds.
As the level increases, so will the speed of your attacks and will make it much harder for your opponents to read your own attacks, especially your feints and parries. What’s more, the higher the skill, the less damage your weapons will take in combat, making this skill one you’ll want to invest in where possible.
As you may expect, a lot of Warfare’s Perks center around combat, from basic maneuvers to evening the odds when you’re outnumbered (which you often are), you’ll find that you’ll eventually want the majority of the Perks to be found here.
Leveling Warfare¶
As mentioned above, Warfare works extremely similar to Main Level, in that all of the other combat skills gaining levels will see you gain XP for Warfare, as such, looking for opportunities to get into a scuffle constantly is a great way to raise it. As are those moments in the story where you find yourself in large scale battles.
While many players may take a shine to one particular weapon, don’t neglect the others completely as you can use them as a way to grind XP for Warfare. If your Swords skill is sitting at 18, but your Polearms and Heavy Weapons are around 6-8, then spending a few hours with each of the weapon types are a great way to farm some XP for your Warfare skill.
The final method for leveling your Warfare skill, like with every other skill in the game, is by making use of Skill Trainers and Skill Books. There’s not much to know about Skill Trainers beyond discovering their location and paying the requisite coin per rank you want to learn. You can find out how much each one costs below:
Skill Trainer Rank | Groschens |
---|---|
Basics | 100 |
Apprentice | 500 |
Journeyman | 1500 |
? | 5000 |
A lot of Skill Trainers can be found by discovering new areas, while some will become a Skill Trainer after completing a quest for them. One such Trainer is Gules, a former bandit turned soldier found in Lord Semine’s service, after completing the Bandit Leader quests. Alternatively, the Scribe in Troskowitz will offer opportunities to sell Skill Books, with which you can read to learn specific skills, look for combat skill books to help with Warfare.
Best Warfare Perks¶
Every time your Warfare skill reaches a new even level (so 6, 8, 10, etc.), you’ll get a Perk Point to spend, with each of these thresholds offering new Perks available to learn. While it is entirely possible to grab every Perk, that involves a massive amount of investment and as such, you’ll want to prioritize specific Perks. With that said, these are the Perks you should be looking to unlock as soon as possible:
Furor Teutonicus¶
The highest level Perk in the tree is one of the best you can find, as whenever your health drops below 75, your attacks will become stronger. Considering it doesn’t take much for your health to drop a little, odds are, this will always be active during larger and more difficult battles, making this a great Perk to get.
Masterful Feint¶
When it comes to combat, performing Feints are one of the best actions to take, especially if you want to take your opponents out quicker. You’ll already make it easier to feint by increasing the Warfare skill in general, but with this perk, you’ll almost always succeed against lesser enemies and have a far easier time against the most difficult of foes.
Against All Odds, One Many Army, and Unbreakable¶
I know, I know, this is actually three Perks, but they’re all extremely similar that they all flow perfectly together. When you’re in combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, you’re often outnumbered, even if it’s a simple two-on-one, and all three of these Perks will become active during that condition. Against All Odds will give you a +2 bonus to Strength, Agility, and Warfare, Unbreakable will cause your Stamina to recover 20% faster, and One Man Army will increase your damage.
Steadfast¶
The lowest level Perk is also one of the stronger ones in the Warfare tree, as when purchased, it will cost you 20% less Stamina to block attacks, and cause your weapon and shield to lose less durability. Seeing as blocking and countering is such a powerful combat technique, this will just make it all around easier to perform and eek out the benefits from.
List of Warfare Perks¶
The table below will list all of the Perks you can find in the Warfare tree, along with what level and other requirements they may have:
Perk | Effect | Requirement |
---|---|---|
Evade | In combat, you can use a evasive maneuver. You can perform it by pressing the jump key along with a directional key. You can use it to quickly dodge attacks, move to a safe distance, or even move closer to your opponent. What’s more, if you perform a dodge in the timeframe for a Perfect Block, your opponent will lose his balance, and it will be easier to break his defense. | – |
Feint | If you move to attack from one direction but quickly change direction just before your attack, your opponent will have less chance to parry the attack. | – |
Perfect Block | The Perfect Block is the best way to deflect your opponent’s attack. It doesn’t cost any stamina, and certain attacks can only be blocked with a Perfect Block. The shield on your combat rosette will light up green when you’re able to perform a Perfect Block. If you attack right after performing a Perfect Block, you can perform a counter-attack - a riposte. | – |
Riposte | You can perform a riposte, i.e. attack immediately after performing a Perfect Block. To perform a riposte, press the attack key as soon as your weapon touches the opponent’s during a Perfect block. A riposte can only be defended against with a Perfect Block. This technique is very effective against inexperienced swordsmen, and a duel of two master swordsman is often a chain of Perfect Blocks followed by ripostes until one of them slips up. | – |
Steadfast | Blocks will cost you 20% less stamina and your shield and weapon will wear down 20% slower by blocking. | Lv 6 |
Head Protection | If you are wearing a helmet, blows to the head will cause 20% less damage. | Lv 6 |
Against All Odds | When fighting against superior numbers, you gain a +2 bonus to Strength, Agility, and Warfare skills. | Lv 8 |
Hardened Veteran | In combat, your stamina will regenerate 10% faster. | Lv 8 |
Rock Solid | In combat, you can maintain a steady stance and use it to your advantage. When you don’t sprint or dodge for 10 seconds in battle, you’ll gain +20 to your Armour. Sprinting or dodging will cancel this buff. | Lv 10 |
River | Whenever you make a dodge, a perfect dodge or sprint during combat, you gain a +3 bonus to Warfare skill and your stamina replenishes 15% faster. The effect lasts for 10 seconds. | Lv 10 |
Ironclad | The weight of the armour you wear affects your speed of movement and how much stamina sprinting depletes. Using this perk, your armour will weigh you down 20lbs less, thus having a lesser effect on your stamina. Neither the actual weight of your armour nor your carrying capacity will change, however. | Lv 12 |
Unbreakable | If you are outnumbered in a fight, your stamina will recover 20% faster. | Lv 12 |
Knight in Shining Armour | When you wear plate armour, you gain a bonus to Charisma ranging from +1 to +4. | Lv 14 |
Masterful Feint | You’ve perfected your feint to the point that it’s very difficult for even an experienced warrior to respond to it. | Lv 14 |
Hardened Veteran II | In combat, your stamina will recover an additional 10% faster. | Lv 16 - Hardened Veteran |
One Man Army | When you’re outnumbered in a fight, you deal 10% more damage. | Lv 16 |
Furor Teutonicus | Your attacks will be stronger the more injured you are. The effect will only work if you have 75 points of health or less. | Lv 16 |
There you have it; you now know how to level the Warfare skill in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II along with knowledge on what the best Perks are to learn as soon as possible. With this, you can now wade into battle as a one man wrecking crew and lay waste to everything!
