Starting the Mutt Side Quest¶
You’ll have to play through the prologue before you get access to exploring the Trosky region, this happens following the events of Laboratores, at which point Henry and Sir Hans will go their separate ways for now. If you take a look at your map, you’ll immediately see that the Mutt Side Quest has begun, pointing you in the direction to the west of Bozhena’s hut that you’ve been staying at.
Find Out What Happened to Mutt¶
Once you’re ready to begin the search for Mutt, you’ll need to return to where he was last spotted, close to Rocktower Pond during your escape from the Bandits. Fortunately, Bozehna’s hut is nearby, so you can use that to pass the time or sleep if needed. Follow the path to the west and once you reach the objective area, you’ll run into a Vagabond who, without much prompting, will attack you.
Once you’ve dealt with him, loot him if you wish and then go to where he was standing initially, and examine the area. Much to Henry’s joy, you’ll discover that it’s not Mutt. This will prompt a visit back to the Herbwoman, who is fortunately close by. When you speak with her, you’ll be able to ask her if she’s seen your dog. This will open up two more objectives for you to follow-up on.
At this point, there are two objectives you can follow, the first is to go to the Zhelejov Wagoner’s Inn and speak to the Innkeeper, he will direct you to a shepherd. This will take you out of the way of where you want to go to find Mutt, however, so instead, go to the objective instead.
Try and Ask the Fisherman About Mutt¶
This is the objective you’re looking for if you don’t want to go out of your way doing extra objectives. The fisherman in question can be found in Vidlak Pond, located to the northwest of Zhelejov Wagoner’s Inn. Once you reach the area, head over to the northeast side of it and you’ll find him either at the stream or in his house (depending on the time of the day).
Speak with him, and you’ll once again be directed to Siegfried the Shepherd that Lawrence mentioned, along with the Huntsman nearby. More importantly, he’ll mention something about a large pack of wolves down near Rocktower Pond, the area that Mutt went missing.
At this point, you have two choices, you can either go to see Siegfried to help him with his sheep problem that will eventually lead you to the location of Mutt, or can you go east a little from Vidlak Pond to find Huntsman Vostatek, where you can accept the Lackey Side Quest form his wife, Zlata. This is a lengthy side quest, but there are numerous rewards to be had (you’ll even get a new permanent place to stay) so this is the path we suggest. Upon completion, you can ask Huntsman Vostatek about your dog, do so and he will mention the wolf pack and where they’re prowling, this is the exact location you’re looking for.
Find Mutt¶
Regardless of how you got there, be it from helping Siegfried the Shepherd or Huntsman Vostatek, you’ll be directed to the cliffs above Rocktower Pond, and told to visit there before dusk. You’re nearing the end of the quest at this point, so before you head there, take the time to prepare yourself. You’re going to have a battle once you get there, so make sure your equipment is repaired and you have the means to heal yourself.
Make your way to the Nomad Camp and take the path south to reach the rocks where the wolf pack was rumored to be. As you get closer to the center of this area, a cutscene will trigger and you’ll finally find Mutt. Unfortunately, you’ll have to deal with the wolf pack first before you can get out of there.
Kill the Wolves or Flee!¶
You’ll get a quick tutorial on how you can use Mutt in combat, and you’ll quickly find his assistance will make combat far easier, especially if you take the time to level the Houndsmaster skill. For the sake of this battle, you’ll want to keep your distance instead of wading into the middle of all of the wolves and don’t wave your weapon around needlessly.
The best way to deal with wolves are to keep an eye on whatever wolf is approaching you and then let it go to attack you. Once you see the shield icon, block to parry it and then counter, you may get one-two hits in, but you’ll be safe from any danger and won’t deplete your Stamina quickly. At the same time, hold down the [Triangle]/[Y]/[X] buttons to have him attack the enemy you’re looking at.
Fortunately, you won’t need to best every wolf here, and while you do have the option to flee, that is far more difficult because they will pursue you and attack you from behind. Once you’ve dealt with a few of them, speak to Mutt to have Henry engage in a lengthy conversation with his canine pal, bringing this quest to an end.
