After recovering from the abuse suffered during the prologue, one of Henry’s objectives is undoubtedly finding a horse - not only is such a beast a status symbol, but a necessary means of conveyance. Besides, it won’t do for one of Hans Capon’s retainers to waddle around on foot across the Trosky countryside! There are many ways to get horses in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, but reuniting with Henry’s faithful Pebbles is arguably the best. Doing so will also earn you the An Old Friend achievement, and whether you care to keep Pebbles long-term or not, this page will cover how to recover Pebbles and earn the aforementioned achievement in the process!

An Old Friend Questline¶
You can encounter Pebbles surprisingly quickly after the prologue ends; once you’re off the pillory you should have two side quests you can pursue as a prerequisite for the next main quest Wedding Crashers - The Blacksmith’s Son and Materia Prima. Head to Tachov and complete the former, which is little more than a blacksmithing tutorial and you’ll unlock a bed and a storage chest in the process, which is a great way to get started. Once done, talk to the blacksmith and you’ll be able to start the next quest in this questline, The Jaunt, which is where you’ll encounter Pebbles.

Finding Pebbles¶
After starting The Jaunt, travel southwest from
Troskowitz to find
Semine, talk to the guard by the gate of Lord Semine’s manor, beat up a belligerent wedding guest named Jurko, then you’ll find yourself chatting with Lord Semine, who wants to go hunt the missing wagon you’re after… seemingly just as an excuse to escape the drudgery of daily life. Once Lord Semine is gone, Gnarly will ask you a rather practical question, assuming you arrived at the estate on foot, and recommend you talk to Groom Ballatay about purchasing some old grey nag he recently acquired.
Make your way into the stables (southwest of the manor) and before you seek out this Groom Ballatay, find a grey horse in the pen and you should get a prompt to look at it. Do so and Henry will identify the horse as his Pebbles. Now talk to Groom Ballatay and pick the option ”Pebbles!”, which totally doesn’t make Henry look disturbed in the slightest. Who doesn’t greet people by shouting out differently sized denominations of stones? In any event, you can convince Groom Ballatay to hand Pebbles over by passing an easy or hard Speech check, or you can just buy her for a rather paltry 180~ groschen (a price that can be haggled lower). You should unlock this achievement when she’s yours again, regardless of how you go about getting her back.
(1 of 3) Take a gander at the grey nag in the horse pen,
Note that Pebbles is not a very good horse, stat-wise, but don’t be deceived! She can be improved by unlocking the Good Old Pebbles perk by simply riding her around a lot - 35km or so should do the trick. This is enough riding to level Horsemanship from Lv9 to Lv17 - around 4,000 EXP or so, so it’s no small amount of riding, but the stat gains are worth it, transforming Pebbles from one of the worst horses in the game to one of the best instantly. Check out the page Unlocking “Good Old Pebbles” for more information.
