There are a number of Side Quests to be found in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, spread out in various parts of the world. This will be another side quest that begins in Gerudo Town, and while it’s possible to start this before finishing the Lightning Temple, you won’t be able to finish it until after completing it.
Where to Start The Mysterious Eighth in TotK¶
The Mysterious Eighth is a follow-up side quest, which means you need to have completed another before you get it. That quest is The Heroines’ Secret, which can be gotten whenever you gain access to the Gerudo Shelter. While you can start this side quest in the shelter, you won’t be able to finish it until after completing the !Lightning Temple. After finishing the previous side quest, follow Rotana to a room that has statues of the seven heroines. This is located past the classroom in the shelter, then past the room with the sand seal.
Where to Find All Gerudo Orbs for The Mysterious Eighth in Tears of the Kingdom¶
The whole premise of this quest is to find the seven orbs and bring them back to the statue room in the shelter. Each orb will have a design on it, which you will have to match with its corresponding statue, by placing it in its arms. You will be able to get at least one of the orbs prior to completing the !Lightning Temple, but the rest should wait until after it’s done. Note that these orbs can be gotten in any order, so the following list doesn’t have to be followed as shown below.
If you are doing this without a guide, you can head on over to the little courtyard right next to the throne room, where you will find Patricia, Riju’s personal sand seal. Take out a Splash Fruit and place it on the ground next to Patricia and she will eat it, which will yield a “prediction” that lists the coordinates of one of the orbs.
First Gerudo Orb Location¶
The first orb is pretty much a freebie, since you saw it while doing The Heroines’ Secret side quest. It was sitting on the ground, right next to Rotana, but if you tried to grab it then, she would stop you from taking it. Now that quest is over, head to where she was located and grab the orb, then bring it to the statue room. You will be rewarded with a Hydromelon for bringing the orb to the room. This orb will go on the first statue on the left side, when you’re facing the room.
Second Gerudo Orb Location¶
The second orb is also found in the shelter, in the bedroom. It’s found on a high shelf, so you can either do one of two things here. Use Ascend underneath the shelf to put yourself right next to the orb, or you can climb up the ladder on the other side and use Ultrahand to grab it. Bring it back to the statues and place it on the third statue on the right side.
Third Gerudo Orb Location¶
For the third orb, you will be staying in the shelter, where you’ll be heading towards the jail. If you remember the little room just down from the jail, you’ll recall that there was an opening there that allowed you to Ascend inside the cell. Well, you’re not going that far, as just the room before that opening will suffice. You will see the orb laying on the ground, out in the open. Bring it back to the statues room and place it on the middle one, in the back.
Fourth Gerudo Orb Location¶
This orb, as well as the next, are located in the actually city portion of Gerudo Town. Head on over to the eastern exit, which is how you entered if you were coming from the bazaar, then turn left and head in that direction. You should see some sand seals in the distance, but stop before going that far. There will be some stairs off to the side, which is what you want. Go up those short set of stairs to find the orb sitting next to a Gerudo Spear. This one goes on the second statue on the left side.
Fifth Gerudo Orb Location¶
Another orb that will be in the city area, although it’ll be on the wall portion. If you go to the southern section of the wall, there will be a rocky area and if you’re in the correct spot, you should see a little pile of sand. Either use a Fan or a Korok Frond (attached to a weapon) to clear the sand, revealing the orb. From here, you just need to drop it down to the ground, then bring it back to the statue room; it will go on the first statue on the right side.
Sixth Gerudo Orb Location¶
This one is found in the town area, right by the eastern exit. However, if you try to touch it, a nearby NPC will mention the orb belongs to someone named Dalia. She is a child Gerudo and if she’s not there, then you will need to wait until the later afternoon or early morning hours. Speak to Dalia to get a side quest, called Dalia’s Game, where she will hide a stuffed sand seal somewhere in the shelter, which you have to find within a time limit. Visit the quest page for more details, but once you finish it, you will be given the orb as a reward, so bring it to the room with the statues and place it on the third one from the left.
Seventh Gerudo Orb Location¶
You will find that this final orb on the list is one of the more annoying ones, not because of how to get it, but because of where it’s located. As you went through the Kara Kara Bazaar, you likely saw one of these orbs by some travelers. However, you weren’t allowed to touch it, since it wasn’t your property. After you do the story bit with the Gibdos at the bazaar, you will notice one of the three travelers is gone from the place, so speak with the one left behind to start the Lost in the Dunes side quest.
Complete this side quest to be rewarded with the orb, and it’s now your task to bring it all the way to the shelter. If you have a Sled in your inventory, you can use that with a Fan and Steering Stick to cross the desert. Just make sure you avoid anything that’s not sand, though, as the sled doesn’t do too well on those surfaces. Either way, once you have brought the orb to the statues, place it in the correct one based on the pattern (it’s the second one on the right side).
How to Reach the Gerudo Sanctuary in Tears of the Kingdom¶
Upon placing all seven Gerudo Orbs on their respective statues, a hidden area will open up in the ground, revealing another orb, which is bigger than the other ones. Read the stela there, then you’ll need to bring this giant orb to the North Gerudo Ruins. This is the area where you first round Riju during the main story segment, so it’s not that far from the town. You don’t want to go to the southern entrance, but to the northern one. There will be some enemies in the area, too, so be mindful of them coming after you, should they.
Once you find the hole in the ground to the north, drop the large orb into it and the thing should eventually settle into the receptacle, opening the gate. Follow the path to the end, then use Ultrahand to remove the debris from the next opening. Drop down, ignore the next gate, and keep following the path to another room. Note that you will encounter a few monsters inside this place, but only a few Gibdos or an Electric ChuChu. The next portion will have platforms that fall down, whenever you step on them, but you’ll just fall in a pool of water.
When you’ve looted the place, look up and spot the torches on the wall, which will mark your next path; you can use Ascend to reach it. The next room has three slabs that are covering up something, but only one blocks the way forward. The middle is hiding a Gibdo, while the right one reveals Arrow x5, which leaves the left one covering a hole. Continue through the tunnel, then in the next room, quickly pass over the falling bridge. On the other side, just keep going and you will eventually reach the final room, the Statue of the Eighth Heroine Room. Read the stela there to update the quest, then feel free to loot the items in the room, if you want.
After reading the stela in the one room at the end of the Gerudo Sanctuary, return to Rotana at the statue room in the shelter to complete the quest. Your reward, besides the goodies in the one chamber, is a Diamond from Rotana.
