During his adventure, Link will be exposed to many dangers. While giant Moblins and hulking constructs are obvious threats, the weather can prove no less lethal, and much more insidious. Some climates are incredibly cold, and others are intolerably hot, and while preparing meals that boost your resistances, seeking shelter from the sweltering sun or huddling next to a roaring fire are often alternative options, all of these require you to either burn resources or delay - even abandon - exploration. This page will cover how to obtain the Archaic Warm Greaves in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Where to Find Warm Clothes in Tears of the Kingdom¶
As you explore Great Sky Island - the game’s tutorial phase - you’ll be tasked with heading to three shrines, where you’ll pick up vital abilities. En route to the third shrine (Gutabanc Shrine) you’ll be introduced to extreme weather, as this shrine is located at a higher elevation than the others. On your trip to the shrine, you’ve no choice but to endure the cold weather by cooking dishes utilizing Spicy Peppers, which you’ll find along the way. The cold resistance these dishes provide is sufficient, but temporary, and you’ll need another dose - or better yet, a more permanent solution - after solving the Gutabanc Shrine.
Fortunately, such a solution is nearby, and Gutabanc Shrine equipped you with the ability necessary to reach this prize. From the shrine head east while keeping your attention turned north, where you should spot a massive, frozen tree stump across a gap and above you. Head under a slab of this frozen tree sticking out above the area you have access to and activate your new ability Ascend, which will allow you to tunnel through the frozen wood above you.
Once done, continue north into the massive tree stump and inside search to the right (east) to find a chest in a cubby. Loot this chest and you’ll get the Archaic Warm Greaves, which will give Link one tab of Cold Resistance when equipped, consequently lowering the threat threshold on the temperature gauge (the blue colored sections of the gauge, which indicate temperatures that are dangerous). This might not be sufficient for Link to weather the coldest climates in the game, but it should be enough to keep cold at bay on the Great Sky Island. These clothes will be surpassed eventually, but it’d be a shame to miss such a useful tool at the start of the game!
