The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Presenting: Hero's Path Mode

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Hero’s Path Mode is a function that relates to your map in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, where you will be able to view the steps you’ve taken on your journey. It is another feature that was added with DLC in Breath of the Wild, only it’s in the main portion for this game. You are actually able to see up to a total of 256 hours of playtime, with older data being overwritten by newer one, should you go over that amount.

Hero’s Path Mode is one of three options to upgrade after completing Hateno Village Research Lab.

Where to Start Presenting: Hero’s Path Mode in Tears of the Kingdom

This side adventure is similar to Presenting: The Travel Medallion, as you have to do a bit of legwork before you can actually start it. In fact, it’s the same prerequisites as the Travel Medallion, so it will be a little bit into the game before you see it. So, you will need to do the following prior to getting Hero’s Path Mode:

Upon completing all of those, you can speak to "Robbie" iconRobbie at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab to see three more options to upgrading the "Purah Pad" iconPurah Pad. One of these options will be for the Hero’s Path Mode, so select it to start this side adventure.

How to Unlock Hero’s Path Mode in Tears of the Kingdom

Thankfully, this side adventure is pretty simple, in terms of what you have to do. You only need data for 15 shrines in order to complete it, which you might have already done at this point in the game. Considering you need to do four shrines on the Great Sky Island before you’re able to reach the surface, that only leaves 11 more shrines to go. Every major town and all of the stables should have a shrine near them, so those are easy and useful ones to get.

(1 of 3) You may only need to open up the shrine for Robbie’s data.

As already mentioned, if you’ve done a lot of exploring, then you may already have discovered the appropriate number of Shrines. It’s not clear if you need to have gotten the "Light of Blessing" iconLight of Blessing from the shrines or not, but completing the puzzles in the shrines is always a good thing, since you can trade those in for more hearts or stamina. Once you have 15 Shrines under your belt, return to Robbie and you will complete the side adventure.

How to Use Hero’s Path in Tears of the Kingdom

When you have finished the side adventure and have Robbie put the program on your Purah Pad, you need to learn how to use it. Note that Robbie will place a user’s guide on the wall in his lab, showing you how to use it, but Hero’s Path Mode isn’t exactly something you will likely be using a lot. Basically, you just need to open up your map and press the X button. This will begin to draw the path you took from the beginning of the game, to your current position. As mentioned in the opening paragraph on this page, this records up to 256 hours of your playtime, so the path could be recording your entire playthrough.

(1 of 2) Hero’s Path Mode is basically a recollection of your journey, on the map.

Upon pressing the X button, you will see more controls at the bottom of your screen, so you can speed it up and do other things. That about sums up the Hero’s Path Mode in Tears of the Kingdom!
