The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, while essentially based of its predecessor Breath of the Wild, introduces a plethora of new mechanics that keep the gameplay fresh and exciting. While you’re probably playing around with Link’s new abilities such as Fuse and Ultrahand, there is a lot more to uncover.
One of these aspects is the introduction of Caves, new areas that can be explored across the whole world. With this guide, we’ll be detailing exactly what these caves are as well as how to see their locations since they can be hard to find.
What Are Caves in Tears of the Kingdom?¶
As previously mentioned, these Caves are a whole new introduction in Tears of the Kingdom and aim to keep you entertained on your journey through Hyrule. This is because instead of the standard traversal from point A to point B or quest step to quest step that Breath of the Wild offered, Caves allow you to make small exploration pit stops, potentially with mini puzzles inside, and get some additional materials.
Inside, you will also be tasked to find a Bubbulfrog which drops a Bubbul Gem if taken out. These are hidden, and require some looking in those nooks and crannies so ensure you do a full sweep before leaving.
How to Find Caves in Tears of the Kingdom¶
So Caves can be simply found by exploring whether that be on foot or on a trusty steed of your choice. But, this requires a lot of time, and if you’re new to a portion of the map, you may have a hard time locating them.
Additionally, since Cave entrances are dark and a little hidden, you almost have to be directly next to them to notice the way in. However, there is a solution to this, allowing you to see their locations from afar.
The way you can highlight these Cave openings is through first locating a Cherry Blossom Tree. The first one of these that you’ll encounter is in Hyrule Field, north of the Yamayo Shrine (Map Marker), and you’ll know the difference between this tree and the others thanks to the distinct pink petals it possesses.
As you approach the tree, you’ll notice that there is someone sitting beneath it. This NPC is called Konora and provides you with some lore about the tree and the mythical creature Satori that is known to like fruit.
Then, what you’ll need to do is grab any form of fruit. There should be some Fire Fruit located just next to the tree, so if you’re out, just pick up these for use. Fruit in hand, place a fruit into that looks like a stone basket at the foot of the tree.
Once you do this, a cutscene will play out featuring Satori. During this, you’ll see Cave entrances all around getting lit up with a blue colour, looking almost like small smoke signals emitting from the openings. This will enable you to quickly locate these Caves and tick them off one by one.
However, one thing to note here is that these signals will subside so if they do, simply return to the Cherry Blossom Tree and repeat the process. There is no limit on how many times you can do this so don’t fret if you find yourself looking around and not seeing the blue lights in the distance.
