The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

How to Beat Stone Talus in Tears of the Kingdom

By
Jacob Woodward

Tears of the Kingdom isn’t short of a boss or two, testing both your combat skills and wit with each of them having a certain set of mechanics. Luckily, there are some bosses that have made a return from Breath of the Wild, making things a little easier to figure out.

One such boss is the "Stone Talus" iconStone Talus, who makes another appearance in the Hyrule overworld, ready for taking down to reap its drops. While we’ve just stated that it is a returning boss, they’re still pretty tough to defeat so below, we’ll provide you with all the tips we have to make mince meat of the Stone Talus.

How to Beat Stone Talus in Tears of the Kingdom

If you’ve encountered the "Battle Talus" iconBattle Talus already, the Stone Talus’ more deadly brother so to speak, you’ll know that these enemy types are pretty formidable due to their size and hard-hitting attacks.

However, they have one weakness that you can exploit pretty easily - the large crystal on their shoulder/back. When trying to defeat Stone Talus’, this is exactly what you want to be looking out for and will be the only way of bringing it to its ‘knees’.

So, with this in mind, the way you hit this weak spot is by firing arrows at it. Get your bow out and start targeting it by holding down ZL Joy-Con-ZL, and you should be able to inflict some pain.

If you are, however, having trouble with aiming since the Stone Talus does move around, what you can do is hook up a "Keese Eyeball" iconKeese Eyeball to your arrow and this will add a homing effect to it, hopefully removing any aiming concerns.

Once you have hit the crystal, as previously stated, the Stone Talus will be brought down, allowing you to then inflict more damage. Again, if you’ve experienced the Battle Talus in all its might, you’ll know you need to get on its back to do so.

However, with the Stone Talus, it is far easier since there are no platforms you need to use "Ascend" iconAscend on, and you can simply climb on top. If you do this successfully, get as many hits in as you can on the weak spot and you should see that health bar deplete pretty rapidly.

The Talus will attempt to throw you off if you’re spending too much time on its back, so look for its tell of squirming somewhat, jump off, and repeat the downing process.

Now, simply do the same tactic over and over and the Stone Talus will be rubble in no time. For your troubles, you’ll get a Talus Heart which is fantastic weapon fuse material, enhancing its attack power significantly.
