The Duchess Who Disappeared Walkthrough - Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

By
Ben Chard

When it comes to Side Quests in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, finding the starting location of them can often be the most challenging aspect. While many quests will begin in the various settlements, there are plenty that are started by locating somebody out in the wild or triggering a certain mechanism. This page will guide you on how to complete the Duchess Who Disappeared Side Quest.

The Duchess Who Disappeared is a Side Quest in the Hebra region.

Former pro shield surfer Selmie has gone missing after leaving her lodge to create a new shield-surfing course. Her student Fin is looking for her on the Biron Snowshelf and said that her shield-surfing tracks come to an end nearby.

Where could Selmie be?

How to Begin The Duchess Who Disappeared Side Quest in TOTK

Before you can even set off to begin this quest, you’ll first need to make sure that you’ve completed the Wind Temple and the Rito Village part of the "Regional Phenomena" iconRegional Phenomena main quest. Once that’s complete, make sure you have protection against the cold weather (such as equipping the Snowquill Armor you can purchase at !Rito Village) and fast travel to the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower. If you take a look at your map, you’ll see Biron Snowshelf to the north, and the area you’re aiming for is the raised ledge above the East Biron Snowshelf Cave, so launch yourself into the air and glide over, you should be able to make it if you have at least two wheels of Stamina, but if not, stop on one of hte mountaintops and begin a second glide.

Once you reach the designated area, you’ll spot a campfire and, standing nearby, Fin, who is frantically searching for his friend and teacher, Selmie, a Shield-Surfer Pro. He claims to have been following her tracks, and that they seemed to have come to a stop here with not a trace in sight of where she may have gone.

You’ll have your first clue right away after speaking with Fin, there were tracks that led around here but have since just stopped. If you look around carefully, you may spot a "Blupee" iconBlupee nearby, drop down to it and it will lead you to "East Biron Snowshelf Cave" iconEast Biron Snowshelf Cave which just so happens to be blocked by destructible rocks. Whip out a Bow and shoot it with "Bomb Flower" iconBomb Flowers, or "Fuse" iconFuse a weapon with a rock and whack away at it to clear it and gain access to the cave.

You’ll immediately spot Selmie by a campfire here, speak with her and you learn that after Shield-Surfing inside the cave, she was trapped following a cave-in. Seeing as Link appears to be the only person who can clear away rocks like this in Hyrule, break the rocks nearby Selmie and speak with her once more, she’ll thank you and ask that you meet her back at her lodge. Before you set off though, check the other path for a "Bubbulfrog" iconBubbulfrog and some rare Ore Nodes.

Regardless, you’ll now need to head to "Selmie's Spot" iconSelmie’s Spot, which is where you’ll find her lodge. If you’ve already activated the Pikida Stonegrove Skyview Tower, fast travel over and use it to launch yourself into the air, then simply glide west to land at Selmie’s lodge. Speak with her inside and she’ll hand over a "Strong Zonaite Shield" iconStrong Zonaite Shield as thanks for rescuing her.
