Some of the shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are out in the open and easy to spot, but they might be a little difficult to reach. Such is the case for the Karahatag Shrine, which is found in the !Gerudo Desert. This page will detail where to find the Karahatag Shrine, how to get to it, and the solution to the puzzle inside the shrine.
Where to Find the Karahatag Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom¶
As mentioned above, the Karahatag Shrine is located in the Gerudo Desert. Specifically, it is found to the south of Gerudo Town, on top of the Southern Oasis. Naturally, you can just climb to the top of the oasis there, as the cliff walls aren’t really all too step. However, on the north-northwestern side of the oasis, there is a smallish pillar, of sorts, you can climb that will cut down on the stamina needed to get to the top of the oasis. The shrine is out in the open, so there’s nothing else you need to do to get to it.
Drifting Flame - Karahatag Shrine Walkthrough¶
The premise behind this shrine is using fire to light, what is basically upside-down torches. When you enter the shrine, you will find a Torch on the ground, right in front of a lit pedestal. If your inventory is full, you’ll need to drop a weapon to grab the torch, as you need it (or, the game wants you to think you need it). The idea is to use the lit pedestal to light the torch, then you will throw the torch at upside-down pedestal. If you don’t remember how to throw a weapon, you hold down the button while it’s equipped to aim it, then let go to throw it.
Of course, like with many puzzles in the game, there is an alternative solution, and it’s also a lot easier. You can simply Fuse a Fire Fruit to an arrow and use that to light the upside-down pedestal. This will allow you to be more accurate, and you don’t have to worry about accidentally putting away the torch, which will extinguish the flames. Lighting the first fire will open the gate to the next room, which is a lot bigger. As soon as you enter, you will see a button on the ground, which when you step on it, the ground in front of you will go down.
However, the button needs to be pressed at all times for the ground to stay down, as it returns to normal if you step off of it. The problem also arises, in that, you need the button to stay pressed in order to both, solve the puzzle in the room, and grab the chest in the shrine. You can actually just drop something from your inventory, like a shield, onto the button to keep it down. Do that, then hop down to the lowered floor and look underneath the platform with the button to find the chest, which contains a Mighty Construct Bow.
With the button still pressed down, look at the three hanging pillars opposite of it to see some pedestals now sticking out of them. That means you’ll need to light all three of them, which can be done with either a torch, or with the Fire Fruit-fused arrows. Lighting all three will open the gate to the altar, so you can remove whatever you used on the button to retract the floor to its initial position, allowing you to get the Light of Blessing at the end.
