The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

How to Complete Rutafu-um Shrine

By
Scott Peers

The "Rutafu-um Shrine" iconRutafu-um Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be found inside the "Hebra Mountains Northwest Cave" iconHebra Mountains Northwest Cave, the entrance to which is located just northwest of "Selmie's Spot" iconSelmie’s Spot in the Hebra Mountains. We’ll guide you through how to complete this shrine by obtaining the crystal from the center of the pond.

Where to Find Rutafu-um Shrine in Hebra Mountains

To reach the Rutafu-um Shrine you’ll need to do some hiking in the Hebra Mountains. More specifically, look for the Hebra Peak marked on the map, then look northwest. If you’ve been to Selmie’s Spot before you should see this on the map, and you just need to walk a bit further northwest from there to find the entrance to the Hebra Mountains Northwest Cave. If not, just keep hiking until you reach the point marked on the screenshot below, or check our Map Marker instead if you prefer.

How to Open the Rutafu-um Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom

Once you’re inside the Hebra Mountains Northwest Cave, you’ll need to head down to the bottom after killing the "Bubbulfrog" iconBubbulfrog through the first chamber that you see on the way down. At the bottom of the cave you’ll see a much larger chamber filled with ore deposits, "Brightbloom Seed" iconBrightbloom Seeds, "Bomb Flower" iconBomb Flowers and "Brightcap" iconBrightcaps. You’ll also notice some "Bokoblin" iconBokoblins at the back of the cave system, which you’ll need to kill before you can safely solve the Rutafu-um Shrine puzzle.

You’ll notice an ice block on the right side of the pond in this chamber. You need to melt this using a source of fire (shooting it with "Fire Fruit" iconFire Fruits will do the trick), then open the chest which will be revealed. In here you’ll find three Wings, which will be useful to solve the puzzle.

How to Get the Rutafu-um Shrine Crystal

If you head to the back of the cave system you’ll encounter the Rutafu-um Shrine, but the crystal is missing so you won’t be able to enter it. This begins The Northwest Hebra Cave Crystal shrine quest, and you’ll be prompted to obtain the crystal and bring it to the shrine. You probably already noticed the glowing crystal in the center of the pond, but now you’ll see a green light shining form the shrine towards it.

You can actually use the "Ultrahand" iconUltrahand ability to obtain the crystal, but you need to get closer to it first. This is where the three Wings that you looted from the chest earlier come in. Take these out of your inventory and then attack all three of the wings together using Ultrahand. The aim here is to form a kind of bridge which you can use to place over / in the water, leading to the crystal in the center. You only need to make it long enough to reach the crystal with Ultrahand, and you may find that the bridge falls in the water a bit.

(1 of 3) Build a bridge using the Wings from the nearby chest.

After creating the bridge, walk along it without touching or falling into the water, going only so far as you need to be able to use Ultrahand to pick up the crystal. You can then carefully bring it to shore and drop it down before taking it to the shrine. If you want to see how we built our bridge to the crystal, see the video below!

How to Complete Rutafu-Um Shrine: Rauru’s Blessing

A brief cutscene will play at this point as the shrine opens up for you! This shrine is a blessing shrine, meaning it has no puzzles and instead just offers up a reward for your troubles. All you need to do now is enter and loot the chest for a Topaz, then claim your "Light of Blessing" iconLight of Blessing.

Rutafu-Um is a Rauru’s Blessing Shrine.
