How to Start In Their Footsteps in Starfield¶

In Their Footsteps starts suddenly when you are playing through the Unity main quest. At the end of the quest, The Hunter will appear again triggering the start of the quest, and some players might not even notice the changeover. This is a short quest that asks you to think about a game-changing choice.

Should You Speak to The Emissary or The Hunter¶

Once you board the Hunter ship you will meet with the Emissary, the first Starborn you encountered first, and the Hunter. They will both speak to you about what unity really is and reveal their true identities. This will be a bit different depending on who you let get killed in High Price to Pay. They both will ask you to side with them and try to explain their reasoning behind it. After you’re done talking, you will be given the option to speak with both the Emissary and The Hunter.

It won’t cause you any problems to speak to just one of them or both. All this mission is about is laying out the groundwork for the final missions of the game and giving you the information you need to make a solid choice. After this mission, three more main story quests will pop up where you can learn more about the universe before having to make any decisions.
