The Commerce Skill in Starfield: Decreasing Shop Prices

By
Shane Williams

Once you’ve created your character and have begun your Starfield Adventure, you’ll notice that you can unlock a variety of skills which will improve your combat and exploration experience. However, a lot of these skills won’t become useful until you start increasing their level and to do that you’ll need to complete certain challenges. This page will provide you with the necessary tips to level up your "Commerce" iconCommerce Skill.

Shops and Vendors will give you a nice discount if you level up the Commerce Skill.

What Does The Commerce Skill Do in Starfield?

There are lots of shops and vendors scattered throughout the many planets that you’ll visit in your Starfield adventure, but as you may expect a lot of the useful items and equipment aren’t cheap, so you’ll need to save up a lot of credits which can be done by completing missions or selling items. However, by leveling up this skill you’ll get a discount on all items and the merchants will pay you more for your precious valuables.

Level Stat
1 Buy for 5% less and sell for 10% more.
2 Buy for 10% less and sell for 15% more.
3 Buy for 15% less and sell for 20% more.
4 Buy for 20% less and sell for 25% more.

How to Level The Commerce Skill in Starfield?

Before you can start leveling up the Commerce skill you’ll need to unlock it and that can be done by heading on over to the Social category and using up one of your skill points. Alternatively, you can choose a background at the start of the game that comes with it already unlocked, such as Diplomat. In order to level up this skill and reach rank 4 you’ll need to buy or sell 100+ items.

If you’re trying to level up this skill as quickly as possible, you’ll want to try and pick up every item you come across whilst exploring the mines and settlements and if you find yourself getting over encumbered, then you can store some items in your ships cargo hold or temporarily let Sarah hold them. Alternatively, you can increase your weight limit by leveling up the Weight Lifting Skill . Whenever you come across a vendor/shop, be sure to quickly sell all your misc items, unused weapons and equipment, as everything works towards the challenge.

Starfield is an action role-playing game from Bethesda Game Studios set in a futuristic interpretation of space exploration and colonization. Earth has long been abandoned, but there are plenty of other planets in different star systems where humans have ventured and settled. You have the freedom to create your own character with a unique background, but the main story will take you through a series of adventures as you uncover more information about mysterious artifacts which create gravitational anomalies. Along the way, you can build and customize your own space ship, establish your own outpost, befriend and romance new companions, and more. As a Bethesda game, you can also expect to see a lot of creative mods which have the potential to change your experience of the base game, or take it in an entirely new direction.
