The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Upgrade Diagrams - Part 1

By
Nathan Garvin

Acquiring the Griffin Witcher Set at level eleven is a godsend, providing a vast boost to your damage output, defense and sign intensity. This gear advantage won’t last forever, however, and before long you’ll need to seek out the upgrade diagrams to create the enhanced versions of the Griffin set. This page will provide a walkthrough for the treasure hunt Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Upgrade Diagrams - Part 1 in The Witcher 3, which will help you find the diagrams for the Griffin Steel Sword - Enhanced, the Enhanced Griffin Boots and the Enhanced Griffin Trousers.

Quest Objectives

Starting Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Upgrade Diagrams - Part 1

Starting this quest is easy, if somewhat limited. You can only begin this quest by purchasing Edwin Grelof’s First Map from the Armorer at Midcopse, and once you read said map this quest, along with Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear will begin. Oddly enough you will not start this quest if you blindly stumble across one of the enhanced Griffin diagrams, but you also don’t need to complete Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear to advance this quest. Of course, you need the base Griffin gear to created the enhanced variants, so there’s no real reason to seek all these upgrade diagrams out until you craft the base gear.

Griffin Steel Sword - Enhanced Location

The Griffin Steel Sword - Enhanced, can be found at a [Bandit Camp] west of Midcopse, northwest of Condyle, on a small peninsula at the western edge of Velen. Head on over there and you’ll find some ruins, now occupied by a small horde of Pirates (Lv7). These come in two groups, with several along the northern edge of the ruins and another group - along with the Pirate Leader (Lv7) outside the ruins further to the south.

Kill the Pirates, then head to the northern end of the ruins to find a doorway - the road that leads to these ruins will terminate near the doorway, so it shouldn’t be hard to find. Enter the ruins via the aforementioned doorway and look south, southwest (slightly to the right) to find some stairs. Ascend them and you’ll find a chest right in front of you. Loot it to score the Diagram: Griffin Steel Sword - Enhanced.

Enhanced Griffin Boots Location

Fast travel to the Inn at the Crossroads and from there make your way to the northwestern end of the island the inn is on to find some brick ruins near a small Nilfgaardian outpost. Explore the ruins but be wary of a Forktail (Lv18) that flies around up here - it will very likely attack you, so be prepared to put this monster down. If you already acquired the Griffin Silver Sword from Lornruk, the Wyvern (Lv14) there fights almost exactly the same, this Forktail just is a bit stronger due to its level. Once the Forktail is slain you can leisurely search the northwestern end of the ruins to find a chest containing the Diagram: Enhanced Griffin Boots.

Enhanced Griffin Trousers Location

The least far afield of the three enhanced Griffin set pieces are the trousers, which can be found a short distance east of Crow’s Perch. Look for some Burned Ruins - it even has its own signpost! - and search the middle of the ruins to find some wooden debris. Buried among this debris is a chest containing the Diagram: Enhanced Griffin Trousers.
