The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Deadly Crossing: Troll Bridge

By
Nathan Garvin

Trolls are notorious for dwelling under bridges, demanding passer-bys pay their troll tolls, but trolls aren’t alone in this endeavor - in lawless post-invasion Velen, Bandits have occupied these crucial crossing and extort travelers… but at least bridge trolls are capable of maintaining the bridges they dwell near. This page will cover the “Deadly Crossing” even near the "Troll Bridge" iconTroll Bridge in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Quest Objectives

Starting Deadly Crossing: Troll Bridge

Of all the “Deadly Crossing” events in Velen, this is the only one whose bridge actually has a signpost, which should make this the easiest to find. You’ll find the Troll Bridge southwest of "Crow's Perch" iconCrow’s Perch. Several Bandits have taken control of a bridge that can be raised, and it will remain raised until you pay up, kill the bandits, or convince them to lower it for you. Since the Bandits are stationed on the northern side of the bridge and the bridge is currently uncrossable, you’ll need to approach from the north to start chatting with the Bandits.

Approach Troll Bridge from the north to encounter some Bandits.

Deal With the Bandits On the Bridge

Approach the Bandits on the northern side of the bridge and they’ll demand you pay in order to cross. Unlike other “Deadly Crossing” events, you can actually just pay… and for some reason flashing your Witcher medallion isn’t an option. Cough up 50 "Crowns" iconCrowns and they’ll lower the bridge and let you cross, which will also earn you 5 EXP, solely due to the fact that you almost always gain EXP equal to 10% of the money you spend via dialog options.

If you wish to cross for free, you’ll have to leverage some of your Witcher skills. Pick the option “Not about to give you a copper.” to pick a fight with three Bandits (Lv3). Two of them are armed with one-handed weapons while another has a two-handed weapon - use strong attacks on the latter, then kill any remaining Bandits. To actually cross this bridge, head south and use a wheel on the eastern edge of the bridge to lower the device. Voila. Freedom to pass.

(1 of 3) Refuse to pay and the Bandits will attack.

Finally, and perhaps most lucratively, you can just use "Axii" iconAxii to convince the Bandits to let you cross. This will, as usual, earn you a healthy 50 EXP for using the Axii sign, which is worth more than what you’d get for killing the Bandits, and their loot is nothing noteworthy.

In the wake of the assassination of Foltest, king of Temeria, the north have been rent by warfare as Nilfgaard launches its third major invasion, and the northlands have been united under the insane king Radovid.
