The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

A Favor for Radovid

By
Nathan Garvin

Politics is a dirty, bloody business, a high-stakes game of murder, intrigue and betrayal - a veritable breeding ground for curses and monsters. Needless to say, monarchs sometimes find themselves in need of a Witcher, and even if the seedier elements of court politics weren’t at play, having a durable mutant killer at your beck and call has its own obvious uses. It’s not surprising, then, that Geralt has found himself in the employ of various heads-of-state, formerly King Foltest of Temeria and presently Emperor Emhyr var Emrais of Nilfgaard. Dabbling in politics rarely ends well for Geralt, which is unfortunate, considering that despite his unfairly earned moniker of “Kingslayer”, another crowned head seeks to coerce services out of Geralt. This page will provide a walkthrough for the main quest "A Favor for Radovid" iconA Favor for Radovid in The Witcher 3.

Quest Objectives

Starting A Favor for Radovid

This quest will begin after completing Get Junior. During the aforementioned quest, you’ll be brought before a Redanian informant courtesy of your old frenemy "Vernon Roche" iconVernon Roche, only to find yourself in the presence of King Radovid himself. He’ll tell you how to find "Whoreson Junior" iconWhoreson Junior but will demand an unspecified future at a future date. Turns out this future date is immediately after you deal with Whoreson Junior - leave Whoreson Junior’s estate in Oxenfurt and you’ll be approached by several Redanian guards who escort you to Radovid on his ship docked at Oxenfurt’s harbor.

Talk to Radovid

When you’re back in control you’ll find yourself unarmed on Radovid’s ship, the HMS Oxenfurt-Tretogor. Follow the guard southwest to find Radovid, still torturing chess pieces, and he’ll give you a simple command - find Phillipa Eilhart. He’s got a lead on this rogue mage so your hunt won’t be entirely blind, but Radovid seems to be leaning on Geralt’s uncanny ability to sniff out sorceresses here more than anything else. Respond however you wish to learn about Philippa’s activities following the end of The Witcher 2 along with Radovid’s grudging confirmation that his leashed mages are in no way comparable - or even fit for purpose - compared to the competent but dangerous Lodge of Sorceresses he’s spent the last several months hunting down.

(1 of 2) Leave Whoreson Junior’s estate after finishing “Get Junior” and you’ll be taken by some Redanian Soldiers to meet Radovid.

There’s no haggling to be done here, ultimately - Radovid issues a command and leaves you to fulfill his demand, starting the quest ["Redania's Most Wanted" iconRedania’s Most Wanted]. Helping Radovid track down Phillipa probably won’t sit well with the other sorceresses in Geralt’s life, but there’s nothing compelling you to report back to Radovid with whatever information you find. In any event, completing [Redania’s Most Wanted] may be necessary to advance a Radovid-focused questline consisting of several quests throughout the course of the game, so whatever your sympathies regarding Radovid, Redania and the sorceresses being persecuted, it’s recommended you complete [Redania’s Most Wanted], one way or another. You’ll get 50 EXP for completing A Favor for Radovid and once you’re done talking to the mad monarch, loot his boat - surprisingly the guards are fine with this - then talk to a Redanian Soldier at the northeastern end of the ship to get back on shore.

You’re not compelled to seek out Phillipa Eilhart now, however… or ever, really. If you prefer you can continue on with the main questline involving Ciri by either pursuing Count Reuven’s Treasure or, if you already completed the aforementioned quest, The Play’s the Thing. All in all A Favor for Radovid is a short quest with no noteworthy options that serves to branch the Radovid secondary questline off from the main questline.
