The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Guarded Treasure Locations

By
Nathan Garvin

Monsters and treasure are two of the more common things you’ll find while exploring in The Witcher 3 and it should be no surprise that the two habitually overlap. The following page will cover every guarded treasure event in White Orchard, including location, monsters and what loot you need to find.

White Orchard Guarded Treasure Locations

Guarded Treasure Location Enemies
South of Ransacked Village map marker Drowners (Lv4)
Southeast of Woesong Bridge map marker Drowners (Lv4)
Southwest of the Nilfgaardian Garrison map marker Wolves (Lv5)
Southeast of the Nilgaardian Garrison map marker Drowners (Lv4)

There are functionally two pairs of guarded treasure events in the White Orchard map. The first two can be found on the shores of the rivers south of the Ransacked Village and southeast of Woesong Bridge, both of which are guarded by Drowners (Lv4). They’re not terribly far apart, as the crow flies, but the terrain makes getting there on foot trickier than it seems. The other pair of guarded treasure events are in the vicinity of the swamps surrounding the Nilfgaardian Garrison, one to the southeast and the other to the southwest.

Guarded Treasure South of the Ransacked Village

The first of the guarded treasure events you’ll come across, at least, the one closest to where you start the game. It can be found just south of the Ransacked Village, although the two are separated by a cliff that’s high enough to discourage any quick, gravity-assisted transitions. You can find some stones you can descend south of the burned-down house along the southeastern edge of the village, but if you descend via this route you’ll find yourself in the midst of several Drowners - the guardians of this treasure. Drowners can be nuisances at lower levels, at least until you get your Active Quen skill leveled a bit, so you probably want to work your way around down to the shore and approach this way, ideally peeling off a Drowner so you can kill them individually. Once they’re dead, loot the pit they guarded - there are two treasure chests within, and you’ll need to empty both to finish this event.

(1 of 3) Try to lure out Drowners so you can dispatch them individually.

Guarded Treasure Southeast of Woesong Bridge

To find this guarded treasure, just follow the shore southeast from Woesong Bridge, down the western side of the river. Eventually you’ll find a shipwreck now patrolled by several Drowners. Try to lure them out one at a time and cut them down, individually, then search the shipwreck to find an unusually lucrative crate and a chest both partially submerged. Loot them both to complete the event.

Guarded Treasure Southeast of the Nilfgaardian Garrison

The only guarded treasure without Drowners at or near it, you can find this one by following the road running along the river from White Orchard town to the Nilfgaardian Garrison. Once you reach the swamp surrounding the fort you should spot some Wolves milling about a wagon, likely led by a Warg. Tame the hounds (you can just block all their attacks and spam Igni when you have the stamina, if you’re feeling lazy) then loot two chests - one beside the wagon, and one still in the wagon.

(1 of 2) Fend off a pack of wolves southeast of the Nilfgaardian Garrison,

Guarded Treasure Southwest of the Nilfgaardian Garrison

Found deep in the swamp, pretty far afield from any notable feature, you should examine the Notice Board in White Orchard town to get the “?” marker placed on your map (or just use our handy map of White Orchard to pin-point the location of this guarded treasure. If you follow the western road connecting the Nilfgaardian Garrison to the town of White Orchard, stop at the southern edge of the swamp, then follow the edge of the swamp west and you should find this guarded treasure - a chest on a small bit of land near a corpse. Despite the “guarded treasure” marker, it’s not directly guarded by anything, although some Drowners can be found nearby. If you’re careful they won’t spot you, but there’s another danger lurking nearby in the form of poisonous gas. Blast it with Igni to temporarily disperse it then loot the chest to complete the event.
