The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Ciri's Story: Breakneck Speed

By
Nathan Garvin

All of Geralt’s efforts in Novigrad up to this point have been directed at one goal: finding Ciri. Pretty much the story of the whole game up to this point, really. After many labors, Geralt finally rescues his longtime friend and recent Ciri collaborator, "Dandelion" iconDandelion, which affords him another tale about Ciri’s activities. This of course takes the form of the quest "Ciri's Story: Breakneck Speed" iconCiri’s Story: Breakneck Speed, and this page will provide a walkthrough for the aforementioned quest in The Witcher 3.

Quest Objectives

Starting Ciri’s Story: Breakneck Speed

This quest will begin near the end of A Poet Under Pressure, after you infiltrate the Isolated Hut in the wilderness outside of Novigrad, kill the Witch Hunter inside, and free Dandelion.

Flee Towards the Temple Isle

As with most Ciri’s Story quests, this one involves her fleeing some trouble she’s gotten herself into. In fact, this quest is similar in some ways to Ciri’s Story: Fleeing the Bog in that your goal isn’t to kill everything in your path, but rather to make it to a set destination. Unlike the aforementioned other CIri’s Story quest, however, combat might be more likely this time around, as the area you’re navigating - the streets of Novigrad - aren’t as simple as the swamps of Velen were.

(1 of 2) You’ll start this quest out fending off several of Whoreson Junior’s Henchmen,

You’ll start this quest out fending off several of Whoreson Junior’s Henchmen, (left), but don’t let your enemies distract you - they’re infinite, and killing them is not the objective. (right)

When you find yourself in control of Ciri you’ll be under attack by several of Whoreson’s Henhcmen (Lv11-12), including one with a crossbow. Kill them, just remember that Ciri doesn’t have "Quen" iconQuen (although her health regenerates much faster), she cant counterattack with a well-timed block, and her Blink special ability is as much of a trap in this quest as it was in Ciri’s Story: Visiting Junior in that enemies can hit you after the attack has triggered. On the uneven and often obstructed streets of Novigrad it’s even less reliable, often just not working if your targets are on lower or higher ground or are in some say obstructed.

Kill Whoreson’s men, then head south to the main road and kill two Guards (Lv10) before approaching the nearby gate. Dandelion should open the gate and bid you to mount a horse with the goal of fleeing to the heights of the Temple Isle. As always, horses are unreliable and there are plenty of obstructions along the road, not to mention many of Whoreson’s men. If the horse is proving more bother than it’s worth, nothing says you can’t just follow the road on foot and dodge past any enemies around. Just don’t stop to fight them, Whoreson’s men are endless and will keep spawning.

(1 of 3) Instead, approach a gate and Dandelion will show up with two horses - you’re meant to ride them uphill to the temple complex,

Flee until you reach a gate at the top of a hill, where more of Whoreson’s men have gathered. At this point you’ll have to dismount and fight a mob of enemies including two crossbowmen, who should be your priority. Between Blink’s unreliability and Ciri’s lack of tools for dealing with mundane enemies - especially mixed mobs of them - this whole quest is a chore, but aggressively butchering the crossbowmen provides your best odds of success. Once they’re dead, follow Dandelion through the gate to trigger a scene and the end of the quest.

After this quest ends you’ll transition back to A Poet Under Pressure. Finish questioning Dandelion and that quest will end to, and with it the main questline in Novigrad is, for now, complete.
