How to Find the Grandmaster Ursine Gear

By
Nathan Garvin

The enemies you’ll face in Toussaint are more dangerous than those you left behind in the north, and suitably you’ll be able to track down new Witcher set upgrades to compensate. On this page we’ll tell you how to find all the diagrams for the Grandmaster Ursine Witcher set, which will complete the quest Scavenger Hunt: Grandmaster Ursine Gear and advance Master Master Master Master!.

How to Start Scavenger Hunt: Grandmaster Ursine Gear

The hunt for the Grandmaster Ursine set is covered entirely by the treasure hunt Scavenger Hunt: Grandmaster Ursine Gear, which itself is an objective for the secondary quest Master Master Master Master!. You can start the latter by checking the notice board near “The Gran’Place” signpost, where you’ll find the notice Contract Grandmaster Armorer, after which you need to find the shop of the Grandmaster Smith - Lafargue - in the heart of Beauclair and talk to him… or you can skip the notice board entirely and just talk to Lafargue. While you’re talking to Lafargue, you’ll be able to ask about each set of diagrams individually, just pick the option “Tell me about the Bear” to start Scavenger Hunt: Grandmaster Ursine Gear.

Snagging the Grandmaster Ursine set diagrams is a surprisingly easy endeavor, as the entire set of six diagrams (four pieces of armor and two swords) is doled out over two drops, the first of which doesn’t even require any fighting.

Where to Find the Grandmaster Ursine Diagrams Near Flovive

The first half of the Grandmaster Ursine set diagrams can be found along the outskirts of Flovive, which itself is across the lake northeast of Beauclair. Once you reach Flovive, head to the northeastern edge of Flovive to find an estate past an archway. Head up to a leaning red building and search along the left (northwestern) edge of the house to find some rubble alongside the house. Hit the debris with Aard and you’ll disperse the rocks, revealing a hidden underground chamber. Descend into the depths and explore a side chamber to the right to find a chest, wherein you’ll find the Charite’ Gontran de Tufo’s Journal the Diagram: Grandmaster Ursine Silver Sword, Diagram: Grandmaster Ursine Armor and the Diagram: Grandmaster Ursine Gauntlets.

Be sure the read the journal to learn the rough location of the next set of diagrams, and what critters may await you there.

(1 of 4) Find a cave in the forest north, northwest of Flovive.

Where to Find the Grandmaster Ursine Diagrams in the Giant Centipede Cave

The second set of diagrams are more dangerous to recover and further afield - you’ll need to make your way north, northwest of Flovive to find a cave in the woods. Just follow the river that slices through the forest and you should find it.

Before you enter, apply Insectoid Oil to your sword - there’s only so many sources of random seismic activity, after all - then head into the cave and drop down a couple of ledges. To the right (southeast) you’ll find a Giant Centipede (level forty), of course. If you want to make this recovery effort easier, you can just chug a Golden Oriole, which will neutralize the ranged attacks of the various centipedes and allow you to focus on dropping Yrden traps to catch the bugs when they surface.

Anywho, kill the many-legged monster, then backtrack to the northwest and scan for a fragile section of wall. Destroy it with Aard to reveal a chamber wherein you’ll find the Warning note from the witcher you’re following, which mostly just points out that the caves are intensive and he left symbols to guide him - symbols you can use to trace your fellow witcher’s steps and perhaps find the armor you seek.

Return to where you fought the Giant Centipede and just past the waterfall you should spot a bear symbol carved into the wall. Examine it if you wish, but you don’t need to fuss over these too much, as these caves aren’t that labyrinthine, and diversions tend to lead to extra loot, which is always nice. Continue past the chamber occupied by the Giant Centipede and into some tunnels (another bear symbol adorns the wall to the right), and stick right and keep an eye out for symbols until you reach an underground stream.

Get your feet wet and if you head upstream you can find some minor loot. If you want to continue on towards your objective, go downstream, drop off a ledge, turn left, and kill another Giant Centipede (level forty). The narrow confines of these tunnels makes dodging the monster’s poison tricky, at best, but Golden Oriole will turn this source of damage into healing, making the whole encounter much, much easier. After the Giant Centipede is defeated, search a corpse to find Junod of Belhaven’s Journal, Diagram: Grandmaster Ursine Trousers, Diagram: Grandmaster Ursine Steel Sword and Diagram: Grandmaster Ursine Boots

With these in hand, you can leave the caves, and if you return to Lafargue you’ll complete Master Master Master Master! as well. Might be worthwhile if you want to upgrade your armor, but you could also just keep looking for more witcher sets:
