Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Boss: Umber Drague

By
Ben Chard

This is a guide for the Umber Drague boss fight found in the Pentelas region in Chapter 4 of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

The Umber Drague is the first boss of Chapter 4 in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

How to Beat Umber Drague

Name Level Type
Umber Drague 30 Terrestial_Life_Enemies_Icons_Map_Xenoblade_3.png

This is a rather odd battle; you just happen upon this massive dragon as you’re exploring the Great Cotte Falls without any fanfare and the boss fight itself reflects that.

That’s not to say that Umber Drague is without its threats but considering the kind of challenges you’ve had more recently, this is a lot more manageable. If you decided to complete Unwavering Resolve, then consider having Isurd in your party, he’s a competent Healer and the Strategos Class is a useful one (it’s a good idea to have Taion in this Class too).

The Umber Drague has a few Arts available to it, and you can learn more about them below:

  • Tail Swipe: The Umber Drague will swing its massive tail at the party, dealing moderate damage to the entire party and inflicting Blowdown.
  • Heat Scream: The Umber Drague will let out a piercing scream, granting it the Critical Rate Up buff.
  • Crushing Bite: The Umber Drague will lunge forward and bite a single target, dealing major damage and inflicting the Phys. Def. Down debuff.
  • Mighty Gale: Once Enraged, the Umber Drague will flap its massive wings and deal moderate damage and Knockback to the entire party.

The Umber Drague only has one major threat in this battle, the Crushing Bite Art and it should be something that your Tank can deal with. With that said, the Umber Drague’s auto-attacks are slow, but damaging which adds to the overall damage output you’ll sustain from the Umber Drague.

One of the biggest obstacles when fighting this boss is the sheer size of it, this will make it difficult for any classes that have positionals from the front and back (such as the Full Metal Jaguar) since you’ll waste a lot of time getting around its massive frame. Whenever you see the Umber Drague use Heat Scream to increase its Critical Rate, make sure the current target is healed as much as possible as Crushing Bite will hit hard.

Outside of this, there’s not too much to say about the Umber Drague. Despite its imposing nature, it doesn’t feel much more than a Unique Enemy rather than a story boss. Even when the Umber Drague Enrages, there’s not too much more to deal with other than Mighty Gale, which is only a moderate damage attack (even if the Knockback can be distracting).

Don’t bring in any Classes that rely heavily on back positionals and ensure you have at least two Healers (or one if you have Isurd as your chosen Hero) and you should have more than enough to handle this giant lizard. Try to make sure you save a Chain Attack for when its near death and use it to score an Overkill for the bonuses that confers.
