Boss Fight: Moebius U

By
Ben Chard

This is a guide for the Moebius U boss fight found in Juniper’s Ascension Quest, Survivors in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, taking place in the Pentelas Region.

Moebius U is a boss in Juniper’s Ascension Quest, Survivors.

How to Beat Moebius U

Juniper finally gets her battle with a Moebius, after her Hero Quest not featuring one. Consul U’s crimes are many, and the party decides she needs to be stopped for the good of the Colony. Moebius U has a lot of HP, and she features many Arts that can cause nasty debuffs such as Shackle Healing. You’ll want to ensure you have Cure Bullet (Valdi’s War Medic Class) on someone and bring a Signifier as always for the invaluable buffs that they offer.

Moebius U has plenty more Arts that you should watch out for, and you can learn all about them below:

  • Missile Burst: Moebius U will shoot out multiple missiles dealing moderate damage to a single target and inflicting Shackle Healing, disabling Healing Arts.
  • Mental Focus: Moebius U will charge herself, granting her the Attack and Physical Defense Up buffs.
  • Toxic Bullet: Moebius U rises into the air and shoots a bullet that causes moderate damage and inflicts the Defense and Ether Defense Down debuffs.
  • Evil Powder: Moebius U spins around, scattering a red mist in an AoE around her that has a chance to inflict the Bind debuff on any target it hits.
  • Moebius Dominion: Defenders: Moebius U releases a wave of energy, causing Shield Bind to any Defenders.
  • Poisonous Sparkle: Moebius U will rise into the air and release a wave that deals Toxin and Sleep to targets in an AoE in front of her.

Moebius U is a strange boss, it has plenty of Arts that can cause an untold amount of debuffs to the party, but in terms of actual Arts that deal heavy damage, only Missile Burst and Toxic Bullet really do anything. Instead, a lot of her damage comes from causing debuffs and having her regular auto-attack damage stack up over time.

She will use Mental Focus often, granting her increased Physical Defense and Attack so Classes like the Full Metal Jaguar can be useful here as their Arts are all Ether based and thus, won’t be affected by the increase to Physical Defense. Machine Assassin (if you’ve unlocked it) can also be useful too, as some of the random debuffs may inflict Physical Defense Down which will nullify her own buffs.

Missile Burst has the added effect of causing Shackle Healing on top of the damage it deals. If, for some reason, this strikes your Healer, be sure to have it removed immediately. Moebius Dominion: Defenders is an Art you’ve seen before; it will disable any Defenders in your party so be sure to manually change to them and press the onscreen buttons to release them rather than waiting for the AI to do it themselves.

(1 of 2) Evil Powder has a chance to bind your entire party

Evil Powder has a chance to bind your entire party (left), while Moebius Dominion Defenders can shackle any Defenders in your party. (right)

Both Evil Powder and Poisonous Sparkle, which she uses when she Enrages, are pure debuffs only, they won’t deal any direct damage. They do have a large AoE though, so it’s a good possibility that the majority of the party will get hit by these Arts. Evil Powder has a chance to Bind, which acts like a mini-shackle, and you should ensure you switch to Healers and release them as quickly as possible. Poisonous Sparkle, instead, deals Toxin and Sleep to targets it strikes which can be a big problem if you’re not protected against it.

The strategy to defeating Moebius U, then, is a simple one. You’ll want at least one of your Healers with the ability to cast Cure Bullet, this can essentially nullify most of the threat from Moebius U. A single Defender can get by in this battle as she doesn’t rely on damaging Arts and it means you’ll have less work to do when she uses Moebius Dominion: Defenders. With this one simple piece of preparation, Moebius U becomes one of the easier Moebius battles you’ll encounter in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, especially at this stage of the game.
