Unlock Criteria¶

Description¶

The Chalk Prince and the Dragon is a Limited Timed Event and it first appeared on the 23rd December 2020 with it running through until the 5th January 2021. It consists of four phases which will unlock on different dates. The event is essentially a story quest for Albedo.

Dragonspine Introduction¶

The first thing you’ll notice about Dragonspine is the new gameplay mechanic Subzero Climate. What will happen is, whilst traversing the area you will start to get cold, this is called the Sheer Cold status and this is indicated by a blue meter above your Health bar.

The status will accumulate at approximately 1% a second, certain actions like swimming in the water or being in a Snowstorm will increase the rate even further, at around 3/4 of the meter, it will begin to flash, meaning in 30 seconds the Sheer Cold status will hit its peak dealing 2% of your Health a second.

To counter this status, you’ll need to find a heat source. Heat sources come in different varieties, Bonfires, cookpots, Torches, Ruin Braziers which can be activated and Warming Seelies, some food recipes such as Goulash will slow the rate that it accumalates. Teleport Waypoints and Statues of The Seven will also reset your Sheer Cold status.

1. Use your Elemental Sight to follow Albedo’s tracks
2. Reach the place where Albedo is
3. Defeat the startled hilichurls
4. Speak with Albedo

Use your Elemental Sight to follow Albedo’s tracks¶

After the cut scene, you’ll have to track down Albedo with your Elemental Sight skill which will be shown as footprints on the floor. Along the way you’ll encounter several enemies, some you would’ve seen before and some you wouldn’t have, these are basically Cryo versions of their normal counterparts so Pyro and Electro is great here.

Keep following the tracks south and after a short while you will come across a blue object covered in Ancient Rime, Ancient Rime can only be destroyed by attacking the red ore known as Scarlet Quartz and obtaining its energy, this energy is used for a lot of the mechanics in Dragonspine as well as empower your next attack whilst you have it but more importantly, destroying the Ancient Rime.

As you approach the object you’ll notice a blue enemy to the side of it, this is a Cryo version of the Lawachurl, its attacks stay mostly the same and it’s extra weak to Pyro attacks, after you’ve dealt with it, destroy the Scarlet Quartz and then attack the blue object.

Frostbearing Tree¶

This is part of the event and requires you to collect Crimson Agates to level up the tree, as you level up the tree (up to level 12) you’ll be rewarded with various items including a Warming Bottle gadget at level 4, Four Star Catalyst Frostbearer at level 10 and a Crown of Insight at level 11.

Crimson Agates can be found all around Dragonspine and they’re similar to the Geoculus and Anemoculus, where they could be floating in the air or hiding in some rocks.

Reach the place where Albedo is¶

Once you are done with that continue south/southeast whilst lighting up any torches or cookpots to avoid the Sheer Cold status and you’ll eventually get to a group of three Hilichurls dancing in front of a blue object, as you approach them, a cut scene will start.

Defeat the startled hilichurls¶

After the cut scene you’ll have to face off against one Cryo Rock Shield Hilichurl Guard, one Cryo Hilichurl Shooter and two Cryo Hilichurl Grenadiers. Like most enemies in Dragonspine, Pyro and Electro reign supreme and that’s the same case here, defeat them and you’ll be treated to another cut scene.

Pyro and Electro should decimate the enemies as it’s their weakness.

Speak with Albedo¶

Once the cut scene ends, speak with Albedo to get another cut scene which will end the quest.
