Difficulty Monsters
★★★★★★★★☆☆ Guardian Stalker x1

This floor features a ruined water fountain at the center, with a few trees scattered around. Towards the right, there are two horses you can attempt to tame.

Strategy

The difficulty of this floor largely depends on you experience with fighting Guardian Stalkers–those are the fully operational Guardians that walk using their octopus-like legs. Besides Lynels, they’re generally the strongest foes you’ll face, but they’re a lot more lenient to fight.

(1 of 2) While standing on the bowl of the fountain, grab the Guardian’s attention.

While standing on the bowl of the fountain, grab the Guardian’s attention. (left), You can then snipe the Guardian from a relatively safe position. (right)

There are two ways you can approach this fight. If you want to play it safe, make a beeline for the fountain at the center, then climb up into the “bowl”. Once there, using the upper part with the three winged creatures as cover, shoot arrows to lure the Guardian.

Due to the height of your location, the Guardian shouldn’t be able to aim its laser at you. From there, you can safely shoot arrows at the Guardian’s eye to damage and stun it. To conserve arrows, at some point, you may want to drop down and directly attack the Guardian. Use Stasis if necessary.

(1 of 3) Alternatively, sneak up and tame a horse.

Alternatively, if you’re the daring type, head right and slowly approach one of the two horses. Then tame it and ride it in the direction of the Guardian. When you’re close enough, leap off the horse and pull out your bow to trigger bullet-time. Then shoot the Guardian’s eye to stun it.

In any case, when you’re fighting the Guardian up close, focus on cutting its legs with the Stone Smasher or another strong weapon. Each time you destroy a leg, the Guardian will be stunned for a bit. After all (or most) of its legs are gone, the Guardian will be unable to move, making it a slightly bulkier Decayed Guardian.

(1 of 2) While the Guardian’s stunned, focus on systematically breaking its legs.

While the Guardian’s stunned, focus on systematically breaking its legs. (left), A Guardian Stalker with no legs is a sitting duck for your attacks. (right)

While attacking the legs, if the Guardian moves away and begins targeting you with its laser, freeze it with Stasis if it’s available. Otherwise, try to shoot its eye to stun it again. Failing that, just run!

Another way to dispatch Guardian Stalkers is by parrying their laser with your shield. This will require good timing; otherwise, you’ll break your shield or, worse, take massive damage. First, lock onto the Guardian with ZL, which will also automatically raise your shield.

(1 of 2) Lock onto the Stalker with ZL and wait until it shoots its laser.

Lock onto the Stalker with ZL and wait until it shoots its laser. (left), The moment the laser leaves the Guardian’s eye, press A to parry the laser back. (right)

When you hear the “beam” sound preceding the actual laser or when the laser sight vanishes, wait a split-second, then press A to parry with your shield. If successful, time will briefly slow down and the laser will be reflected back. Do this around three times to destroy the Guardian.

By the way, if you really hate Guardian Stalkers, you could consider using an Ancient Arrow. We’d only suggest doing so if you have 5 or more Ancient Arrows. In that case, you’ll need to aim directly at its eye to one-shot it. It’s easier to aim if you glide towards the Stalker after jumping off a horse or a Cryonis ice pillar, etc.
