The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Illusory Realm: Thunderblight Ganon

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

A guide on how to beat the Windblight Ganon boss in the Illusory Realm, which is the boss fight for the Ex Champion Urbosa’s Song DLC Quest.

Return to Vah Naboris!

How to Unlock the Illusory Realm Thunderblight Ganon

Before you can access this boss fight, you’ll need to collect all three Urbosa’s Emblems from the three shrines in the Wasteland region. Head over to our guides below if you need to find out how to unlock and complete them.

Once you’ve collected all the emblems, head over to Divine Beast Vah Naboris. The whole aim of this boss fight is to fight Thunderblight Ganon in an illusory realm where you have different weapons, armor and items to what you usually wear. You’ll be given the following items to fight the boss with:

  • Desert Voe Set (Level 2 Upgraded)
  • Scimitar of the Seven
  • Edge of Duality
  • Daybreaker
  • Shield of the Mind’s Eye
  • Voltfruit, Zapshroom, Raw Meat

All your armor has been traded in for Desert Voe armor!

How to Beat Thunderblight Ganon in the Illusory Realm

Once you’ve witnessed a brief cutscene and been given your new equipment, you’ll now need to fight the Waterblight Ganon.

As the weapons dictate, you can only fight the Thunderblight Ganon with melee weapons, meaning you’re going to have to get up close and personal with him - no bows for you!

Welcome back Thunderblight Ganon!

First Phase

During the first phase, the Thunderblight Ganon will flash about, hitting you with his sword for a bunch of damage and then flashing out again, barely giving you enough time to get hits in. You want to block his attacks using your shield and Daruk’s Protection to stun him and have a few precious seconds to damage him. If you have the time, prepare a charged attack to also damage him using Urbosa’s Fury - he’s not immune to electricity thankfully! You can also attempt to dodge him using the following moves, allowing you to get in some punishing Flurry Attacks.

Ability Controls combo
Sidehop Joy_Con_ZL.png Target enemy > Joy_Con_Left_Stick.png⮜ or ⮞ Strafe > Joy_Con_X.png Jump
Backflip Joy_Con_ZL.png Target enemy > Joy_Con_Left_Stick.png ⮟ Backpedal > Joy_Con_X.png Jump

Between flashing around and smacking you with his sword, he’ll also occasionally fly up and throw electrical orbs at you to stun you and make you drop your weapon, which can be quite annoying. Try to avoid being hit by them so you don’t have to go scrambling for your weapon whilst also trying to dodge his zooming around.

Once he’s at half health, you’ll enter into the second phase!

(1 of 2) Use Daruk’s Protection to stun Thunderblight

Use Daruk’s Protection to stun Thunderblight (left), then hit him as quick as you can before he zooms off again. (right)

Second Phase

In the second phase, Thunderblight Ganon will create a bunch of metal rods and make them lodge into the ground. He’ll then use lightning to strike the rods near you to stun you. As he’s about to stun a metal rod, use magnesis to move the rod to the vicinity of Thunderblight Ganon to stun him temporarily, causing him to fall to the ground where you can then hit him safely for a few seconds.

After successfully stunning him with lightning, he’ll go back to zooming around and hitting you in quick succession. Just continue to dodge or parry his attacks until you’ve whittled his health down. At about 10% health, he’ll start using his guardian homing laser, and at this stage you just want to damage him as quickly as possible or hide behind the various structures in the area.

(1 of 2) Use the metal rods to stun him with his own lightning

Use the metal rods to stun him with his own lightning (left), then you can beat him once and for all with flurry attacks. (right)

Urbosa’s Fury +

After you’ve beat the Thunderblight Ganon, you’ll get a brief cut scene revealing some Urbosa lore. Then you’ll get an upgrade to your Urbosa’s Fury power, making it recharge faster.

Urbosa’s Fury will recharge a lot quicker - hurray!
