This Lynel is one of the hardest foes you’ll face in the Final Trials. (left), To effortlessly defeat it, shoot it with an Ancient Arrow ASAP (or after using Stasis). (right)

Difficulty Monsters
★★★★★★★★★★ Blue-Maned Lynel

This is the real boss floor of the snowy section. Straight ahead is a menace that makes lesser men cower in fear: a Lynel. Dotted around are a few trees, but don’t expect them to make good hiding spots.

Strategy

Due to the sheer might of the Lynel and your lack of proper gear, we seriously wouldn’t advise fighting it head-on. If you somehow don’t have any Ancient Arrows (how did that happen?) or you want to make things harder on yourself, you can try to fight the Lynel normally. But don’t say we didn’t warn you!

(1 of 2) If you gathered every food item you could, there’s a decent chance you can afford a Level 3 Attack buff.

If you gathered every food item you could, there’s a decent chance you can afford a Level 3 Attack buff. (left), Note that the Attack buff won’t stack with the Cold Resistance buff, so you’ll have to work around it. (right)

For a fighting chance, we hope you prepared a meal with a Level 3 Attack buff prior to this floor. This is possible by cooking the two Razorshrooms from Floor 6 with two other Razorshrooms or Mighty Bananas found randomly on other floors. The quicker you end this battle, the lower the risk of you dying.

Due to the cold, eating an Attack-buffing meal means you can’t have Cold Resistance at the same time. To counter this, equip the Meteor Rod or Flamespear and focus on attacking with arrows. To start with, try to shoot the Lynel in the head to stun it. Use Stasis if you’re not confident with aiming.

(1 of 2) Apply Stasis on the Lynel to create a safe opening to attack.

Apply Stasis on the Lynel to create a safe opening to attack. (left), Keep aiming at the Lynel’s head. If you’re quick, you can stun it again with a headshot right after it recovers. (right)

While the Lynel’s stunned, keep shooting its head or temporarily switch to a different melee weapon and pummel the Lynel, while slowly taking cold damage. If you’re quick, you can also approach the side of the Lynel and then mount it to deal non-stop damage for a bit. Be sure to temporarily remove your fire weapon to preserve it.

When the Lynel recovers, you can run around for a bit until Stasis recovers. If the Lynel pulls back to charge, always dodge to the left (when facing the Lynel). This is important when the Lynel rushes forward to swing its sword. Since the Lynel is right-handed, it’ll swing its sword left, which is your right.

(1 of 2) The Lynel’s triple swing is a great time to trigger a Flurry Rush.

The Lynel’s triple swing is a great time to trigger a Flurry Rush. (left), Before pressing Y to commit to the Flurry Rush, we suggest switching to a powerful weapon. (right)

Otherwise, you can try to dodge the Lynel’s melee attacks and trigger a Flurry Rush. If you’ve fought Lynels outside, you may be familiar with their triple swing attack. Although it can deal heavy damage to you, it’s possibly the easiest way to trigger a Flurry Rush. After triggering a rush, briefly swap to a strong melee weapon to dish out good damage.

Another thing you can try is using the Meteor Rod to burn the nearby tall grass. If the tall grass catches on fire, it may create an updraft that you can use to glide. While in the air, you can then bullet-time shoot the Lynel in the head. But be wary that the Lynel’s consecutive fireball attack can aim upwards.

If the tall grass catches on fire (from using the Meteor Rod etc.)… (left), …You can glide up to avoid some of the Lynel’s attacks. (right)

Speaking of, if the Lynel charges up for a consecutive fireball attack, unless you’re daring, it’s probably better to weather it out. Dodge by moving sideways, raising a shield if you’re worried. Afterwards, these fireballs may create updrafts, which you can use to glide and perform bullet-time shots at its face.

The benefit of fighting the Lynel head-on is that you can retrieve its Mighty Lynel Sword, Mighty Lynel Shield and Mighty Lynel Bow afterwards. Otherwise, the Lynel’s equipment will be evaporated with the Ancient Arrow. Anyway, before leaving the floor, melt the ice block by one of the corners for 5 Bomb Arrows.
