In this page, we’ll show you the easiest way to deal with Thunderblight Ganon in Master Mode.

General Tips

Do yourself a favor by giving Link a Level 3 Attack buff. This can be from eating a meal or donning the Phantom armor set, for instance. The more damage you can deal in a given timespan, the less of an impact the health regeneration will have.

If you’re not in a hurry, we also suggest bringing the Master Sword with you. This sacred weapon deals 60 damage and has boosted durability against Blight bosses. You need a minimum of 13 (natural) hearts to draw the sword; so you must complete 40 shrines (assuming no Divine Beasts).

Preparations

(1 of 6) Climb up Lakeside Stable to retrieve this axe.

In the vanilla game, Thunderblight Ganon was already the most annoying boss, so it’s no surprise that he’s even more annoying now. Before attempting the fight, we highly recommend equipping the full Rubber armor set, to obtain Level 3 Shock Resistance.

You can receive the helm from the very simple Thunder Magnet quest. Meanwhile the Rubber Armor is gotten from the Trial of Thunder, which is more tricky, but well within your skillset. Lastly, the Rubber Tights can be earned by completing the A Song of Storms quest, which is also straightforward.

Next, arm yourself with plenty of strong and durable one-handed weapons. You can obtain a Moonlight Scimitar from the hidden cave north-west of Gerudo Tower. From the top of the tower, glide towards the conspicuous outcrop and search the east side for an entrance. To uncover the entrance, climb up the outcrop and grab the metal boulder, to use it as a battering ram.

Strategy

For the fight itself, we suggest playing it safe by directly attacking Thunderblight Ganon’s shield, removing the need to trigger a Flurry Rush (but feel free if you’re confident with the timing). After whacking the shield enough, you’ll break it and stun Ganon, giving you time to unload the pain. When Ganon floats, shoot him with arrows to delay the health regen.

During the intermediate phase where Ganon drops metal rods near you, pull one up with Magnesis and move it towards Ganon to stun him and end this phase. You may wish to climb up near the terminal so you’ve got enough height. For the third phase, repeat what you did for the first phase.

(1 of 2) Shock Resistance means Link won’t be stunned by Ganon’s attacks.

With Shock Resistance, Thunderblight Ganon’s various electrical-based attacks won’t stun Link and make him drop his weapons. This is especially useful during the final phase, where Ganon’s sword is usually electrically charged. Also, due to Ganon’s speed, one-handed swords are ideal for swift attacks, while allowing you to use a shield.
